Ricciardo baalt van Magnussen-crash: "Incidenten in eerste ronde zijn verschrikkelijk"

Daniel Ricciardo beleefde een zeer pijnlijke Braziliaanse Grand Prix. De Australische McLaren-coureur kon al na één rondje gaan douchen. Hij raakte de Haas van Kevin Magnussen en voor beide coureurs zat hun race erop. Ricciardo baalde na afloop als een stekker van het incident.

De twee coureurs kwamen elkaar op een pijnlijke wijze tegen in de openingsronde op het circuit van Interlagos. Ricciardo tikte de Haas aan en Magnussen raakte daardoor in een spin. Magnussen kwam achterstevoren op de baan te staan en in een poging om hem te ontwijken klapte Ricciardo op de Haas. Beide coureurs vielen uit en na afloop oordeelde de stewards dat Ricciardo de schuldige was.

Verschrikkelijk

Na afloop was de populaire Australiër vooral teleurgesteld in zichzelf. De McLaren-coureur baalde van de crash en gaf er na afloop tekst en uitleg over. Hij wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "Incidenten in de eerste ronde zijn echt verschrikkelijk. Ik denk dat er niets erger is dan een incident in de eerste ronde. De start was goed. Ik heb nog geen herhaling gezien maar volgens mij had ik een goede run naar bocht 6 en 7. Ik sneed naar binnen voor bocht 8 en ik probeerde te remmen in de schone lucht."

Slippen

Ricciardo kwam daarna de Haas van Magnussen tegen. Hier ging het mis en kwamen de twee coureurs dus met elkaar in aanraking: "Ik weet nog dat ik remde, Kevin zijn lijn verdedigde en toen probeerde ik terug te komen op de racelijn. Ik herinner mij dat alles een beetje samen kwam en ik denk dat ik hem raakte op de apex. Om eerlijk te zijn voelde het als niet zoveel toen ik hem raakte. Toen begon hij te slippen en deel twee was het grote contactmoment."
