Officieel: Seidl wordt CEO bij Sauber

De transfercarrousel bij de teambazen in de Formule 1 draait vandaag op volle toeren. Nadat vandaag bekend werd dat Frederic Vasseur van Alfa Romeo naar Ferrari vertrekt, is zijn opvolger ook al binnen. Andreas Seidl vertrekt bij McLaren en volgt Vasseur per januari 2023 op als CEO.

Andreas Seidl zal de vrije ruimte opvullen die eerder vandaag is ontstaan door het vertrek van Frederic Vasseur. Seidl zal de CEO van de Sauber Group worden de overkoepelende organisatie van het huidige F1-team van Alfa Romeo Sauber. Met zijn grote hoeveelheid ervaring in de racerij zal de Duitse autosportingenieur proberen het F1-team van Alfa Romeo Sauber voort te stuwen richting de kop van het veld.

Op de website van de Sauber Group meldt Seidl: “Het is geweldig dat ik vanaf januari bij de Sauber Group zal aansluiten: het is een team met een rijke F1-historie en het is een organisatie die ik uitermate goed ken van mijn eerdere werkperiode. Ik kan niet wachten om bij het team te komen en om met alle collega’s bij de Sauber Group samen te werken aan onze ambitieuze doelen. Ik wil Finn Rausing (Bestuursvoorzitter Sauber Group) en iedereen bij de Sauber Group bedanken voor deze beslissing: Ik kijk er naar uit om hun vertrouwen in mij terug te betalen met mijn harde werken.”

Of Seidl ook de rol als teambaas van het F1-team op zal pakken, is nog niet bekend. De verwoording op de website van Sauber Group meldt specifiek dat Seidl is verkozen tot de nieuwe CEO. Dit zou kunnen betekenen dat Seidl's eerste taak als Sauber CEO is om een passende teambaas te vinden.

Het Formule 1-team van Sauber heeft momenteel een samenwerking met autofabrikant Alfa Romeo, waardoor het team de naam Alfa Romeo Racing draagt. Met de aankomende samenwerking tussen het Duitse automerk Audi en Sauber vanaf 2026 en de aankondiging van Duitser Andreas Seidl als CEO, zal de Sauber Group naar alle waarschijnlijkheid vanaf dat jaar de samenwerking met Audi verstevigen.

      Al zou Binotto een plek bij RBPT krijgen, dan is de aankondiging van Honda dat het de intentie heeft om per 2026 weer deel te nemen, incluis getekend contract, toch wel een vreemde. Je zou verwachten dat Honda weer met Red Bull in zee gaat namelijk. Maar dan heeft RBPT niet echt een meerwaarde meer als dat zo zou zijn.

    Wat Seidl nog meer vertelde...

    Na zijn eerdere werkperiode in Zwitserland ging Seidl aan de slag bij Porsche. Met dat merk werd hij meerdere keren wereldkampioen in het langeafstandsracen en scoorde hij drie zeges in de 24 uur van Le Mans.
    In 2019 verkaste de Duitser naar McLaren om daar als teambaas aan de slag te gaan. Daar verrichtte Seidl uitstekend werk door het Britse raceteam na tegenvallende jaren weer verder naar voren te brengen. Seidl zegt over zijn vertrek bij McLaren:
    “Ik kwam in 2019 bij het team en ik heb genoten van de samenwerking met Zak. We hebben een aantal goede resultaten geboekt en ik zal altijd met mooie herinneringen terugdenken aan deze tijd. Monza was het hoogtepunt van mijn carrière.

    Het team is op een goede weg. Ik wil iedereen bedanken voor de steun, het vertrouwen en de toewijding. Bedankt Zak en de aandeelhouders voor hun begrip voor mijn persoonlijke beslissing om een andere uitdaging aan te gaan. Ik wens het team het allerbeste voor de toekomst.” McLaren heeft bekendgemaakt dat Andrea Stella Seidl opvolgt bij McLaren.
