Sargeant voelde geen druk: "Balans gevonden tussen risico en beloning"

Logan Sargeant maakt aankomend seizoen zijn debuut in de Formule 1. De jonge Amerikaan kreeg al snel van Williams te horen dat hij een stoeltje zou krijgen mits hij genoeg superlicentiepunten zou hebben. In de Formule 2-seizoensfinale moest hij presteren en hijzelf zocht naar een balans tussen risico en beloning.

Toen Williams tijdens het afgelopen seizoen bekend maakte dat men Nicholas Latifi geen nieuw contract zou geven, werd Sargeant gezien als de topfavoriet voor het stoeltje. Het team van Williams sprak die ambitie ook uit maar Sargeant moest daarvoor wel een superlicentie hebben. Hij mocht meerdere vrije trainingen rijden en moest daarnaast ook niet ver terugvallen tijdens de seizoensfinale in de Formule 2.

Sargeant stond tijdens het laatste Formule 2-weekend onder enorme druk. Een tegenvallend resultaat zou zijn Formule 1-droom immers verpesten. De Amerikaan bleef er koel onder en legt aan Autosport uit hoe hij omging met de druk: "Ik probeerde een balans te vinden tussen risico en beloning. De druk was niet zo groot als ik had verwacht. Toen ik aan het weekend begon besefte ik wat er op het spel stond en ik had er vrede mee. Dat nam de druk weg. Ik wist dat als we alles zouden doen zoals we al het hele jaar deden, dat het dan goed zou komen."

Toen Nyck bij AT tekende werd Sargeant pas de favoriet.
En zonder Nyck had Capito er ook geen zin meer in...
