Nato neemt #17 als racenummer in Formule E-seizoen 2023, eert Bianchi

Nismo-coureur Norman Nato heeft aangekondigd met racenummer 17 uit te komen in het Formule E-seizoen van 2023. De Fransman krijgt hiermee de kans om de in 2014 overleden coureur en landgenoot Jules Bianchi te eren.

Jules Bianchi overleed aan de gevolgen van zijn crash tijdens de Grand Prix van Japan in 2014. De voormalig peetvader van F1-bekende Charles Leclerc racete toentertijd ook al met #17 op zijn wagen bestickerd. Norman Nato, coureur voor het Formule E-team van Nismo, had tijdens zijn debuutseizoen in de elektronische racedivisie in 2021 al de wens om met #17 te racen, maar die werd toentertijd al door Nederlander Nyck de Vries gebruikt. Nato koos er toen voor om wel met de cijfers 1 en 7 te rijden, maar dan in omgekeerde volgorde.

Nu Formule E-kampioen Nyck de Vries officieel de overstap heeft gemaakt naar de Formule 1, is de betekenisvolle #17 vrijgekomen en heeft Nato zodanig het racenummer overgenomen. Op zijn Instagramkanaal meldt Nato: "Ik ben blij en trots op met nummer 17 in de Formule E te kunnen gaan racen. Dit nummer heeft veel betekenis voor mij. Ik begon in het karten en won met #17 meerdere kampioenschappen. Jules (Bianchi) racete ook met dit nummer en dat maakt het getal nog specialer. Ik kan niet wachten om te beginnen."

De nieuwe auto's zijn nog niet zo'n succes... De auto heeft geen "gewone" achterremmen, maar remt dus op de elektrische motor. Leuk systeem, tot de elektro motor uitvalt op snelheid, dan zitten ze dus zonder achterremmen.

Wel top dat een artikel wordt besteed aan Nato, een nietszeggende coureur in FE (oke een overwinning, maar dat hebben 22 andere coureurs ook gered in 8 seizoenen), dat een nummer schijnt te kiezen... Wat in FE niet het geval is. Teams kiezen de nummers voor de auto's, oke vermoedelijk in overleg met de coureur, maar zo had bijvoobreeld Wehrlein in bij Mahindra nummer 94, Daarna nummer 99 bij zijn eerste jaar Porsche en weer 94 sinds vorig seizoen. Wanneer de coureur vervangen wordt, bijvoorbeeld Wehrlein, rijd ook de vervangende coureur met het gekozen "auto" nummer 94.

Er is vorige week een hele week getest in FE, maar dat is niet de moeite waard. Had heel wat kliks opgeleverd gezien de auto's flink tegen lijken te vallen na eerste indruk... De beloofde 4 tot 5 seconden winst blijft haken op zo'n 6 tiende van een seconden.

  nog sterker, een aantal teams heeft grote problemen met die motorrem setup. o a. Jaguar heeft een paar lelijke crashes gehad
