Ocon voelt zich 'meer gerust' onder nieuw management Alpine

Formule 1-coureur Esteban Ocon heeft samen met werkgever Alpine een redelijk jaar achter de rug. Het Franse team verscheen het F1-seizoen van 2022 in een niet al toestand aan de start, maar wist zich met een agressieve ontwikkelingsstrategie richting een vierde eindplaats in het constructeursklassement te vechten. Alpine-coureur Esteban Ocon meent dat er een rust in het team zit, dat naar eigen zeggen in 2026 om de Grand Prix-overwinningen wil gaan vechten.

Met een hoogst behaalde finish van vierde bij de kletsnatte Grand Prix van Japan, wist Esteban Ocon een redelijke basis te maken voor potentieel succes in de toekomst. De topmannen van zijn team maakten immers de keuze om allereerst betrouwbaarheid opzij te zetten voor performance. Het betekende dat het Franse team een zeer snelle krachtbron achterin de A522-bolide had liggen, maar dat het als keerzijde ook flink wat races vroegtijdig moest staken, dit vanwege motorproblemen.

Nu Pierre Gasly vanuit AlphaTauri is overgekomen, heeft het team van Alpine een volledig Franse rijdersline-up. Binnen de gelederen van de Franse renstal wordt er gesproken van een positieve momentum richting 2023. Ocon meent dat zijn kansen op succes in de Formule 1 nu groter dan ooit zijn. "Sinds ik twaalf jaar geleden voor het eerst naar Enstone (Hoofdkwartier van Alpine) kwam, heb ik hier veel veranderingen meegemaakt. Het is overduidelijk dat we ons klaarmaken voor de lange termijn en ik moet zeggen dat dat geweldig voelt. Onder leiding van Otmar (Szafnauer), Laurent (Mekies) en Luca (De Meo) hebben we een fantastisch team", vertelt Ocon tegenover Autosport.

"Ze geven ons een positieve energie. Er voelt geen druk waarin er de noodzaak is om meteen goede resultaten neer te zetten, omdat er anders de stekker uit het project wordt getrokken. Het is compleet anders. De passie voor racing en motorsport is hier te merken. Sinds Otmar, Laurent en Luca in het team zitten voel ik me meer ontspannen dan ooit", sluit Ocon af.

Nee klopt. In 2016 werd er geroepen dat ze in 2019 voor de titel zouden gaan.

Nee klopt. In 2016 werd er geroepen dat ze in 2019 voor de titel zouden gaan.
Het seizoen 2023 staat voor de deur en men roept nu dat ze in 2026 voor de titel gaan.
In 2026 is er een nieuw motorreglement en staan ze weer achteraan te harken. Maar in 2033 gaan ze wel echt voor de titel hoor! Ik heb het hier als eerste gezegd! 2033.
