Marko mist Mateschitz nog elke dag: "Tweede zware verlies voor mij"

De Red Bull-familie moest vorig jaar afscheid nemen van eigenaar Dietrich Mateschitz. De Oostenrijker overleed en liet daarmee een groot gat achter bij de raceteams in de Formule 1. Voor Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko was het een zware klap, hij denkt nog altijd aan zijn goede vriend Mateschitz.

Mateschitz speelde een grote rol in de successen van het team van Red Bull Racing. De eigenaar van het Red Bull-concern was de drijvende kracht achter het team en was geliefd bij zowel de coureurs als de topmensen van het team. Mateschitz overleed terwijl Red Bull en de andere teams bezig waren met de voorbereidingen voor de kwalificatie in Austin.

Lauda

Voor Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko was het een zware klap. De Oostenrijkse adviseur kende Mateschitz al zeer lang en denkt nog altijd aan zijn vriend. In gesprek met de Duitse zender RTL spreekt Marko openlijk over het verlies: "Hij wordt nog steeds heel erg gemist. Dit is voor mij het tweede zware verlies. Eerst overleed Niki Lauda, ik werkte lang met hem samen en we waren tientallen jaren bevriend."

Verstappen

Marko kan zich zijn laatste ontmoeting met Mateschitz nog goed herinneren. De Oostenrijkse adviseur trok samen met Max Verstappen naar de toen als ernstig zieke Mateschitz: "De laatste keer dat ik met hem sprak was aan het meer de Wolfgangsee. Ik was daar samen met Max. Het was toen een zeer lange ontmoeting. Er is nu een zekere leegte, na zijn dood miste ik die vijf minuutjes waarin we samen een race samenvatten. Je moet een manier vinden hoe je met zo'n situatie moet omgaan."

Ja, dat kan ik me heel goed voorstellen. Dat is het lot van ouder worden. Degenen die het langst overblijven verliezen veel vrienden om hen heen. Zo ook Marko.

  Klopt, maar ook Horner die veel jonger is, heeft er veel moeite mee, want Mateschitz heeft er voor gezorgd dat Horner de teambaas van zijn team werd.
  Hij heeft enorm veel voor hem betekend.

  Dat was ook wel na de gp in de vs te zien. Horner vocht tegen de tranen. En trouwens op het podium tijdens het Oostenrijks volkslied Verstappen ook.
  Verstappen was ook behoorlijk verdrietig.

Enigszins off topic maar omdat Lauda ter sprake kwam, die een van mijn helden van weleer is, en ik daarna een filmpje zag met Juha Kankunnen en Markku Allen.

We worden allemaal ouder , je gaat het merken bij het overlijden van je ouders , nu ben ik ook in de leeftijd en daarbij komen ook hartproblemen en beroertes die ik heb gehad dat je het leven anders gaat bekijken , maar aan de andere kant blijf ik mijn humor houden en geniet van alle dingen die het leven bied en ik prijs me gelukkig dat ik samen met mijn zoon een Nederlandse wereldkampioen F1 heb mogen verwelkomen iets waar mijn vader vroeger altijd van droomde toen wij samen altijd F1 keken en Jan Lammers als talent zagen voor een WK titel . Maar helaas dat bleef bij dromen , maar samen met mijn vader wel geweldige races en coureurs gezien door alle jaren heen .
