Magnussen wijst naar Verstappen: "Veilige optie om op te gokken"

Het aanstaande Formule 1-seizoen gaat eind deze maand van start met de wintertests in Bahrein. Tot die tijd is het nog onduidelijk hoe de teams zullen gaan presteren. Ondertussen wordt regerend wereldkampioen Max Verstappen gezien als de topfavoriet, ook Haas-coureur Kevin Magnussen deelt die mening.

Verstappen was vorig seizoen zeer succesvol en hij verbrak dan ook meerdere wereldrecords. Hoe de Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur dit jaar gaat presteren is nog niet duidelijk, wel heeft Red Bull als eerste topteam al hun wagen gepresenteerd. De concurrentie werd echter aardig om de tuin geleid aangezien Red Bull alleen de nieuwe livery aan de buitenwereld toonde.

Alhoewel er dus nog geen meter is gereden, ziet men Verstappen wel als de grote favoriet. Ook Haas-coureur Kevin Magnussen deelt die mening. De relaxte Deen wordt door Sky Sports gevraagd wie hij als de favoriet ziet: "Ik ben niet de juiste persoon voor deze vraag, ik kijk geen enkele race! Max was vorig seizoen zeker erg sterk, kijkend naar hoe hij het deed bij Red Bull. Het is en veilig optie om op hem te gokken. Het kan ook zomaar weer gaan veranderen in de Formule 1."
