Ocon leed aan ernstig longvirus tijdens winterstop: "Iedereen moet gewoon opletten"

Gisteren werd het doek getrokken van de nieuwe wagen van het team van Alpine. Vanzelfsprekend was ook Esteban Ocon aanwezig bij de launch van zijn nieuwe auto voor het aanstaande seizoen. De Franse coureur kijkt uit naar het nieuwe seizoen, maar hij geeft ook aan dat hij tijdens de winterstop flink ziek was.

Voor de coureurs is het belangrijk om tijdens de winterstop zo fit mogelijk te blijven. Het nieuwe seizoen begint immers steeds vroeger in het jaar en voor de heren coureurs is het van belang om bij de eerste Grand Prix van het jaar weer optimaal te kunnen presteren. Ocon was dit ook van plan, maar een ernstig longvirus gooide roet in het eten.

Opletten

Ocon maakte tijdens het persmoment van de launch van de nieuwe Alpine bekend dat hij in de winterstop flink ziek is geweest. De Franse coureur spreekt zich er eerlijk over uit bij Motorsport.com: "Voor anderhalve maand kon ik niet op het fitheidsniveau komen dat ik hoor te hebben. Met behulp van mijn team en mijn coaches is het toch gelukt om net zo fit te worden als vorig jaar. Ik voel mij nu heel erg goed. Maar, in zo'n kleine periode kunnen dit soort virussen echt heel erg sterk zijn. Iedereen moet gewoon opletten."

Wandeltempo

Ocon geeft eerlijk toe dat hij zich eventjes zorgen maakte in aanloop naar de start van het aanstaande seizoen. De Fransman is er open over: "Ik kon wel een paar dingetjes doen, maar mijn cardiotraining kon niet verder gaan dan gewoon wandeltempo. Het was inderdaad zo erg. We maakten ons dus wel een beetje zorgen, maar we hebben er alles aan gedaan om zo snel mogelijk te herstellen en weer volop te trainen. Toen dat moment eenmaal daar was en ik mij beter voelde, boekte ik snel progressie."

  Probleem is dat je het niet weet. Oogenschijnlijk een gezonde klant is een nu ongeveer een jaar geleden heengegaan. Was 'jonge' vrouw die aan sport deed.
  Onze familie heeft wat long issues, maar wij hebben allemaal Corona ontvangen ik denk zelfs dat ik ongewild het virus in de familie heb gebracht. En niemand is heftig ziek geweest er van. Ik geloof dat het ergste was dat een paar reuk en smaak issues hadden een paar weken.
  
  Ik snap het verder niet. Als ik moet gokken dan denk ik dat het meer van doen heeft met aanleg.

  Zou kunnen, misschien heb ik het ook wel gehad, griep heb ik ook nooit, uiteraard verschilt het per persoon.
  
  Die vaak ziek zijn of verkouden, etc dat zijn ook altijd de zelfde mensen, die het krijgen zit denk ik wel een lijn in..

  Tsjah. Dat vraag ik me ook wel af. Gewoon bijvoorbeeld in de sportschool altijd voor en na het toestel schoongemaakt. Toch ergens corona opgepikt op een gegeven moment.

  Covid is een virus ja maar geen nieuw virus de stam covid-19 is dat wel.
  Ik heb nog nooit winkelwagentjes zitten poetsen of gewichten in de sportschool nadat duidelijk werd dat het zich verspreidt via aerosolen en zelden via oppervlakken

Ligt natuurlijk niet aan Ocon maar aan topsporters in het bijzonder.
Ze leven te beschermend met als credo body en hun tempel.
Iets in mij zegt mij dat James Hunt weinig ziek was in zijn actieve tijd. Genoeg bacteriën en virussen die hij opliep maar daardoor juist een van nature weerstand door verkreeg.
