Tsunoda en Norris missen SQ3 door opvallende Shootout-regel

Vandaag wordt voor het eerst de zogenaamde Sprint Shootout afgewerkt. In Azerbeidzjan zullen de coureurs gaan uitmaken vanaf welke plek ze gaan starten in de Sprint van later vandaag. Twee coureurs weten in ieder geval al dat ze niet kunnen deelnemen aan het derde kwalificatiedeel van de Sprint Shootout.

Lando Norris en Yuki Tsunoda weten namelijk al dat ze niet in actie kunnen komen in SQ3 vandaag. Beide coureurs kunnen wel doorstoten naar die sessie, maar door de zeer specifieke regels mogen ze niet in actie komen in die sessie. Volgens de reglementen moeten de coureurs in SQ3 gebruik maken van een nieuw setje softs, Norris en Tsunoda hebben al hun setjes softs al gebruikt en mogen dus niet in actie komen in SQ3.

Op vrijdag was al duidelijk dat dit kon gaan gebeuren. De FIA wilde op het allerlaatste moment de regels wijzingen, maar de teams hadden hier geen zin in. Daarnaast kunnen de teams deze maas in de wet ook op een tactische manier gebruiken. Een setje softs kan immers verderop in het weekend nog van pas komen en daarnaast worden de meeste punten pas verdeeld op de zondag in de Grand Prix.
