Horner rekent zich niet rijk en wijst naar grote updates Mercedes

Het team van Red Bull Racing is zeer sterk aan het huidige Formule 1-seizoen begonnen. De Oostenrijkse renstal won met coureurs Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez de eerste vijf Grands Prix van het seizoen. Teambaas Christian Horner rekent zich echter nog niet rijk en wijst naar de aanstaande updates van Mercedes en Ferrari.

Aankomend weekend gaat het Formule 1-circus weer verder met de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna op het circuit van Imola. Het is de eerste Europese race van het jaar en dat is traditioneel gezien de wedstrijd waar veel teams grote updates introduceren. Onder andere Mercedes en Ferrari hebben al aangekondigd dat ze veel nieuwe onderdelen gaan introduceren in Imola.

Updates

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner wil dan ook niet spreken van een favorietenrol. De Brit weet dat het snel kan gaan en dat deelt hij met de Financial Times: "Er zijn altijd dingen die kunnen veranderen. We keren nu weer terug naar het Europese seizoen. De eerste grote updates komen er dan ook aan. Als we Mercedes mogen geloven, dan komt er bij dat team een volledig nieuwe auto aan! Bij Ferrari komen er ook updates en de concurrenten zullen dus stappen gaan zetten."

Dichterbij elkaar komen

Horner ziet het dan ook niet gebeuren dat Red Bull dit seizoen alle Grands Prix gaat winnen. De Brit verwacht een grote strijd en hij steekt dat dan ook niet onder stoelen of banken: "Het is nog steeds heel erg vroeg in het seizoen. Het is heel erg makkelijk om te kijken naar de afgelopen races. De ontwikkelingen die nu in de pijplijn zitten bij andere teams zullen er zeker voor zorgen dat het veld weer dichterbij elkaar komt."

  uiteraard, ik denk al na een race of 4 dat ze zagen dat de titel ze niet kon ontgaan, dan ga je automatisch al aan het jaar er na denken, mercedes had deze luxe ook jaren lang.

  De luxe om vroeg vooruit te kunnen kijken hebben ze, net als Mercedes, alleen als er ook daadwerkelijk consequent voldoende punten worden thuisgebracht.

Waar denk hij dat Mercedes en/of Ferrari een kleine seconde in de race vandaan kunnen halen.
En hij moet ook niet doen alsof ze zelf niets nieuws meer gaan brengen.
