De Vries vindt overmacht Verstappen niet saai: "Oneerlijke discussie"

Max Verstappen en zijn team Red Bull Racing heersen momenteel in de Formule 1. Verstappen heeft een flinke voorsprong op de concurrentie en wist tot nu toe slechts twee Grands Prix niet te winnen. Een aantal fans balen van deze dominantie en zeggen dat de sport te saai is geworden. Nyck de Vries is het daar niet mee eens.

Verstappen kan dit seizoen voor het derde jaar op rij wereldkampioen worden in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Hij vocht dit seizoen vooral met zijn Red Bull-teamgenoot Sergio Perez. De Mexicaan won de twee races waarin Verstappen niet als winnaar over de streep kwam. Red Bull heerst dus en dat zorgt voor chagrijn. Een aantal fans vinden namelijk dat de sport wel heel saai en voorspelbaar begint te worden.

Oneerlijke discussie

AlphaTauri-coureur Nyck de Vries heeft deze klachten ook gehoord, hij is het er niet mee oneens. De Vries wijst naar de geschiedenis van de sport en wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Ik vind het een oneerlijke discussie. Het gaat al meerdere decennia op deze manier in de Formule 1. We hadden het tijdperk van Mercedes, daarvoor het tijdperk van Red Bull en daarvoor het tijdperk van Ferrari. Het is gewoon de aard van deze sport."

Petje af

De Vries geeft eerlijk toe dat hij een spannendere titelstrijd ook leuker had gevonden, maar hij denkt niet dat de huidige overheersing van Verstappen slecht is voor de sport. "Natuurlijk was het vlak voor de regelwijzigingen gaaf om Max en Lewis te zien vechten. We moeten nu allemaal ons petje afnemen voor wat Red Bull laat zien. Ze hebben echt geweldig werk geleverd door zo'n competitief pakket op de baan te brengen. Max presteert op de toppen van zijn kunnen. Hij levert elke week weer."
