Jos Verstappen trots op records zoon Max: "Ik wil geen vergelijkingen maken"

Max Verstappen evenaarde twee weken geleden het aantal zeges van de legendarische Ayrton Senna. In Canada won Verstappen zijn 41ste Grand Prix en kwam hij dus op gelijke hoogte met Senna. Het zorgde voor veel lof en Verstappens vader Jos noemt zijn zoon speciaal.

Verstappen is bezig met een zeer sterk seizoen in de koningsklasse van de autosport. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur won alleen in Saoedi-Arabië en Azerbeidzjan niet en gaat met een flinke voorsprong aan de leiding van het wereldkampioenschap. Dit weekend kan hij in Oostenrijk Senna inhalen en kan hij een stap zetten in de richting van zijn derde wereldtitel op rij.

Verstappens prestaties zorgen voor veel complimenten. Zijn vader Jos geniet van de races van zijn zoon en hij is enorm trots. In gesprek met La Gazzetta dello Sport spreekt Jos Verstappen zich uit: "In het begin waren we blij met een Grand Prix-zege. Alles gebeurt nu echter zo snel. In de laatste paar seizoenen won Max net zoveel als Lewis Hamilton in de jaren daarvoor. Op een moment wint je zoon 41 Grands Prix, net als de grote Ayrton Senna. Ik wil geen vergelijkingen maken en zeggen dat ze even goed zijn, maar Max is speciaal. Als zijn vader zijnde is het fantastisch om dat te zien."

jos kon eigenlijk ook de special one of buitenaardse senna zijn als hij de auto van max had gehad. maar hij heeft helaas die geluk niet die zijn zoon wel heeft.

Ik zie nog Lauda geïnterviewd worden na Verstappens eerste overwinning in Barcelona: "Jos heeft alles goedgedaan met die jongen. Om te beginnen heeft hij het juiste DNA in zijn moeder gespoten."

En je moet het hem nageven, Jos heeft een monster gecreëerd. Een monster zonder zwaktes, zowel op technisch vlak als mentaal: met druk lijkt hij alleen maar beter lijkt te presteren, een absolute terminator op de baan, die genadeloos is en niets weggeeft, niet eens een kruimel. Zoals Lauda zei: een talent dat slechts ééns in de eeuw voorbijkomt. Heerlijk om te zien dat hij nu alles uit dat talent aan het halen is.

Aan het eind van Max zijn F1 carrière gaan we de Schumachers, Hammilton's en Senna's van deze wereld vergelijken met Max.
