Verrassende Norris trots: "Het team heeft geweldig werk geleverd"

De grootste verrassing van de Oostenrijkse kwalificatie was Lando Norris. De Britse McLaren-coureur reed een aantal zeer snelle tijden en vond zichzelf aan het einde van Q3 terug op de vierde plaats. De updates lijken te werken en Norris was na afloop enorm trots op zijn team.

Norris rijdt dit weekend voor het eerst met het nieuwe updatepakket van McLaren. De Britse renstal had de updates eerde af dan verwacht en men besloot de auto van Norris dit weekend al te voorzien van de nieuwe onderdelen. Zijn teamgenoot Oscar Piastri krijgt volgende week in Silverstone pas de beschikking over de vernieuwde wagen. Op de Red Bull Ring liet Norris in ieder geval zien tot wat het team in staat is.

Norris had niet verwacht dat het zo goed zou gaan. De Britse coureur was slechts 0,267 seconden langzamer dan de poletijd van Max Verstappen. Het zorgt voor een grote glimlach en veel zelfvertrouwen bij Norris, hij sprak zich uit bij Sky Sports: "Ik ben enorm blij. Het team heeft geweldig werk geleverd door alles op tijd af te hebben en het werkte meteen. Al sinds vanochtend ging alles goed. We hadden eerst nog een paar probleempjes waardoor we minder konden rijden. Maar, deze vrijwel nieuwe auto werkt zoals het hoort."

    Ziet er niet slecht uit daar maar eerst eens ff wachten of ie ook in de race dat tempo kan aanhouden

      Heb jij iets gezien van de “longruns” van Lando?
      Ben benieuwd of ze de positie in de race(s) kunnen vasthouden. Zou mooi zijn en kan Norris eindelijk laten zien wat hij in huis heeft.

      Wcmax ik heb geen data maar Lzndo zit nu plots weer een stukje voor op Piastro dus die updates lijken te werken.
      Alleen ff afwachten hoe deze Mcl de banden gaat behandelen. Morgen weten we een tikkeltje meer.....zeer nieuwsgierig ernaar.

      Dat was inderdaad tot nu vooral de issue. De racesnelheid. En volgens mij heeft Norris eerder zo'n goede kwali gehad. Ben alleen even vergeten welke race weekend dit was.

      @WC Max. Heb even de VT bekeken. Helaas kon ik niet de details zien. Er was iets mis met de gps details. Kon niet kijken of drs open was. Het overview had ik wel. Daar leek Norris niet echt een long run te hebben gedaan. Dat paseer ik vooral op de tijden in vergelijking met Hamilton. Hamilton's long run zag er niet erg strak uit. Veel verval in rondetijd op de witte band. Russel zijn long run zag er in eerste instantie erg strak uit. Maar na 6 strakke rondes (lap 12 t/m 17) kakte ook daar de tijden sterk in.

      Verstappens long rn was trouwens zeer matig. Ver achter die van Mercedes en ook met oplopende rondetijden.
      Leclerc deed wat long run-achtige rondjes op rood. Die zagen er snel en goed uit.

      Het is dus afwachten.

      Maar goed. Gebaseerd op de VT gaat Verstappen de race niet winnen. Zoals gezegd. Het is niet meer dan een VT.

    In handen van Norris is deze nieuwe MCL60 erg snel, een bedreiging voor AM, Ferrari en Mercedes. Hopelijk is de auto ook goed voor de banden, zodat ze dit tempo in de race kunnen vasthouden. Tijdens de sprint morgen gaan we daar meer van te weten komen.

      Ik zie in Norris in de juiste bolide de enige uitdager die Max het leven in zijn huidige vorm iets spannender kan maken op de circuits, ik hoop dat hij nu die auto heeft.

    McLaren ging hier 2 jaar geleden ook erg goed, Steiermark GP 4e op 279, GP Oostenrijk 2e op 0,048. Niet dat dit verder veel over nu zegt, maar het kan ook een baan zijn die een bepaalde auto/coureur wat beter ligt. De ene update dit seizoen is nog briljanter dan de ander als je de teams en coureurs moet geloven, ik heb meer de indruk dat het vooral van circuit tot circuit verschilt. Het gaat wel heel erg op en neer namelijk.
