McLaren vecht uitslag Canadese Grand Prix aan vanwege straf Norris

Het team van McLaren heeft zojuist bekend gemaakt dat ze de uitslag van de Canadese Grand Prix gaan aanvechten. Dit heeft te maken met de straf die Lando Norris ontving in Montreal. De Britse coureur kreeg daar een tijdstraf van vijf seconden vanwege onsportief gedrag, McLaren is het daar niet mee eens.

McLaren maakt nu gebruik van een zogenaamde 'right of review'. Ze gaan dus in beroep tegen de straf omdat ze denken dat ze nieuw bewijs gevonden hebben in de zaak. Norris werd bestraft omdat hij bewust langzaam ging rijden achter de Safety Car om hiermee een dubbele pitstop mogelijk te maken. De stewards beoordeelden dit als onsportief gedrag en Norris verloor hiermee zijn negende plaats. McLaren vecht dit nu aan.

Toch om 2 punten en een punt minder voor Alfa Romeo. Daarnaast is het ook een principe kwestie denk ik als je een coureur / team een straf geeft voor onsportief gedrag. Ik denk dat een team dat liever niet in de uitslagen terugziet.

    Gelijk heeft McLaren hier. Het is moeilijk te beargumenteren dat Lelcerc werd opgehouden door Norris als Leclerc een gat laat vallen richting Norris en Sainz nog langzamer reed achter Leclerc. Dat Norris een straf kreeg op basis van onsportief gedrag slaat dan ook nergens op.

      het vergrijp was duidelijk, het lijkt vooral te gaan om het bestraffen ervan waar het in het verleden vaak genoeg (of misschien wel altijd) door de vingers is gezien. Als er in de loop der jaren nooit ergens een verduidelijking oid is geweest is het wel opmerkelijk dat er nu wel een straf volgt.
