Marko maakt zich niet druk: "Gehoord dat ze naar een eiland gaan!"

Max Verstappen won vandaag de Belgische Grand Prix op zeer simpele wijze. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur startte op de zesde plek, maar verschalkte zijn concurrenten op een eenvoudige manier. Verstappen had het ook weer een beetje aan de stok met zijn engineer, maar Helmut Marko maakt zich daar niet druk om.

Verstappen en zijn engineer Gianpiero Lambiase kenden een aardige discussie tijdens de Sprint Shootout op de zaterdag. Ze hadden dat al snel bijgelegd, maar ook in de race voerden ze weer uitgebreide discussies over de boordradio. Ditmaal ging het onder meer over de strategie, de banden en de snelheid waarmee Verstappen over de baan reed. Bij Red Bull lijkt niemand zich druk te maken.

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko zag er na afloop wel de lol van in. De Oostenrijker stelt dat er geen vuiltje aan de lucht is en legt dat op grappende toon uit aan de Duitse tak van Sky Sports: "Ik heb gehoord dat ze samen twee dagen gaan doorbrengen op een eiland in de Mediterranen. Ik heb gezegd dat mijn telefoon aan staat voor als het gaan escaleren! Maar goed, ze werken op een ontzettend hoog niveau en ze hebben veel respect voor elkaar. Ze hebben allebei een flink temperament. Als je hun achtergrond kent, is dat niet vreemd. Ik ga dat niet uitleggen. Het ging allemaal om de snelste ronde en over wat de andere coureur deed."

    Verstappen lacht om boordradio met Lambiase: "Weet dat ze geen extra stop willen"
    Max Verstappen stelt dat zijn boordradio's met Gianpiero Lambiase tijdens de Grand Prix van België 'fifty-fifty' waren. Hij geeft ermee aan dat de helft serieus bedoeld was en de andere helft humor. Het verzoek om nog een extra pitstop te maken in de slotfase valt in de laatste categorie:
    "Ik weet dat ze dat niet willen, dus ik wil ze dan gewoon een beetje nerveus maken."
    Helmut Marko kan om de opmerkingen lachen en benadrukt dat Lambiase een belangrijke factor voor Verstappen is.

    Horner prijst Lambiase: “Veel engineers zouden bezwijken onder die druk”
    Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner is vol lof over de wijze waarop race-engineer Gianpiero Lambiase Max Verstappen door de races loodst.
    Dat het er af en toe stevig aan toe gaat over de boordradio, ligt volgens Horner aan het feit dat de Nederlander een ‘veeleisende klant’ kan zijn.

      Die discussie was alleen op de onboard te horen:

      Max wat als we nu eens een extra stop voor softs maken?
      Pierre:: misschien moet je je banden zoveel te belasten en je hoofd er beter bij houden.

      Ik vond het nogal een stevige reactie van Lambiase, maar hij kent Max als geen ander en weet dat hij dit kan zeggen.

    Ik vind dat GP juist heel rustig en kalm overkomen. Hij klonk wel een beetje geïrriteerd, maar kan zich goed inhouden.
