Humor: Chaos tijdens Minardi F1 two-seaters race op Donington

In 2001 organiseerde Minardi een wel heel bijzondere wedstrijd: een heuse two-seaters F1-race. De wedstrijd werd gehouden op Donington Park, waar ooit een Grand Prix werd verreden in 1993.

Fernando Alonso, toentertijd als broekie GP-coureur voor het Italiaanse team, was een van de deelnemers die een genodigde mee nam. De overige vier rijdende deelnemers die allen een passagier meenamen waren de Minardi-coureurs Tarso Marques en Alex Yoong, teambaas Paul Stoddart en de Engelse F1-legend Nigel Mansell.

Voor deze race waren dus vijf auto's ingeschreven - vier in traditionele Minardi-kleuren. De auto van Stoddart en Kelis was de enige uitzondering. Die was rood gekleurd.

Tarso Marques en Boyzone-ster Lynch startten op pole voor de race en hadden een goede start, maar de motor ontplofte slechts een paar ronden later en het paar was de enige niet-finishers van de race.

De race eindigde voortijdig in ronde 11 toen Mansell en zakenman Frost en Alonso en Goodman, ITV F1's pitreporter, in de laatste bocht in botsing kwamen met Stoddart en Kelis.

Maar euh....die Stoddart kan een flink potje sturen als hij mee kan komen met Alonso en Mansell!

  In de vele grappige interviews met Stoddard waren altijd een bull piepjes te horen. En als hij ergens pissig over was (wat regelmatig voorkwam omdat hij als een leeuw vocht voor zijn kleine Minardi) veranderde een interview vaak al gauw in één hele lange piiieeepppp!

  sowieso waren die intervieuws toen veel leuker, nog niet dat ´correcte´ gedoe. docu´s zijn nu wel beter. maar dat gedoe voor en na de race doet mij niet veel meer.

Ik heb die Stoddart altijd een geweldige vent gevonden, die zou van mij zo terug mogen komen als teambaas bij een team. Dit is echt de eerste keer dat ik deze beelden zie, wel vet om te zien.
Het was helemaal hilarisch geweest als een van de inzittende moest sturen en de ander gas geven en remmen hahaha

Paul stoddart! Legendarisch persoon die idd heel best kon sturen! Altijd de joker uithangen en de boel op stelten zetten! In tegenstelling kon hij ook enorm uit z’n slof schieten en vaak ook terecht!
Paul een echte Engelsman zijnde kon enorm drinken en dan was hij vaak ook op z’n best!
Helaas dergelijke figuren zitten vandaag de dag niet meer achter de knoppen
