Ocon blij met pogingen om Franse Grand Prix terug op F1-kalender te brengen

De terugkeer van een Grand Prix op Franse bodem zou binnen de aankomende jaren zomaar weer een mogelijkheid kunnen zijn. Recentelijk kondigde de Franse president Emmanuel Macron aan dat er hard gewerkt moet worden om de koningsklasse weer terug naar het land te krijgen, en dat klinkt Alpine-coureur Esteban Ocon uitstekend in de oren.

Een race op Frans grondgebied gebeurde vorig jaar voor het laatst, toen de koningsklasse vanaf 2018 een vierjarig contract met Circuit Paul-Ricard tekende. De baan in het zonnige zuiden van het land was het strijdtoneel van zowel spannende, als minder spannende races, en een Grand Prix in het land blijft volgens vele stemmen in en rond de F1-paddock een absolute must.

En dat vindt Alpine-coureur Esteban Ocon ook, die ontzettend blij was met het nieuws dat Emmanuel Macron, de Franse president, een delegatie in werking had gesteld om gesprekken met de Formule 1 en Liberty Media te houden.

"Het is geweldig nieuws", begint Ocon. "Dit is voor mij denk ik wel het beste nieuws van het jaar. Er zijn ontzettend veel mensen druk bezig om naar een oplossing te zoeken, en het is mooi om te zien dat alles in de goede richting loopt. Er zou zeker een Franse Grand Prix moeten zijn. We zijn een groot motorsportland, en hebben gigantische autofabrikanten. Als volledig Frans team zijnde zou het geweldig zijn om een race in ons land terug te hebben. Het maakt mij niet uit waar de Grand Prix precies gehouden wordt, zolang die er maar komt", sluit Ocon af.

Als ze nou gewoon heel Frankrijk naar Amerika of het Midden Oosten verhuizen dan mogen ze waarschijnlijk zelfs twee race weekenden organiseren....

  Istanbul niet zo lang het huidige regime er is, we rijden al in genoeg landen waar journalisten en allerlei anderen in de cel verdwijnen, of erger.
  T is wel echt een gaaf circuit hoor, dat wel....
  
  Mag ik als compromis Portimao voorstellen, een prachtige 'old school' baan, lekker ouderwets met gras en grind naast de baan in plaats van die architektonische hoogstandjes die men tegenwoordig zo belangrijk vind. En met mooie hoogteverschillen

Hetzelfde als met dat Hulkenberg-artikel. Komt er succes van Franse makelij, dan komt er vanzelf weer Franse interesse op gang.

Dan is het natuurlijk niet slim om alles wat Frans is te concentreren binnen één team en laat het nou toevallig dát team zijn waar het aan alle kanten rommelt.
