Norris wil verbetering zien: "De pace is goed, auto lastig te besturen"

Het team van McLaren is goed begonnen aan het Japanse raceweekend. Lando Norris eindigde in de eerste twee vrije trainingen twee keer in de top drie. Je zou verwachten dat de Brit tevreden is, maar na afloop van de tweede vrije training liet hij weten dat nog niet alles naar wens functioneert.

Voorafgaand het raceweekend gaf Max Verstappen al aan dat hij veel verwacht van McLaren op het circuit van Suzuka. De Britse renstal kwam inderdaad aardig voor de dag in de eerste twee sessies. In de eerste vrije training noteerden Norris en zijn teamgenoot Oscar Piastri pas in de slotminuut een snelle tijd, maar in de tweede training kozen ze voor het gebruikelijke schema. Norris noteerde tweemaal de derde tijd.

Pace

Norris was na afloop dan ook blij met de snelheid van zijn auto. De Britse McLaren-coureur zag echter nog wel een probleem, hij deelde dit met Motorsportweek: "De pace was vandaag eigenlijk best wel goed. We zijn waarschijnlijk het hele jaar nog niet zo dichtbij Red Bull geweest op een vrijdag. Dat geeft ons dus wel vertrouwen, maar de auto is wel all over the place. Voor mijn idee is dit regelmatig het geval."

Balans

Desalniettemin verwacht Norris veel van de rest van het weekend. De Brit wil weer voor een goed resultaat gaan en hij denkt dat er veel mogelijk is: "Ik denk dat we gewoon heel weinig grip hebben, maar ik denk ook dat veel teams daar last van hebben. Ik heb er mijn handen vol aan. Als we dit een beetje onder controle kunnen houden en als we de balans een beetje kunnen verbeteren, dan kunnen we morgen een goede dag gaan hebben. De pace is goed, maar de auto is simpelweg lastig te besturen."

  Indirect zei hij dat wel. Hij denkt er in kwalificatie dichter bij te zitten, maar hij hoopt vooral voor Ferrari te zitten.
  
  Ik ga het wel zien hoe het loopt. Norris zou zomaar voor Perez kunnen komen en wie weet met wat geluk op P1. Verstappen stelt de auto gegarandeerd af op de race.
