Marko steekt Leclerc hart onder de riem

Het team van Ferrari is zeer goed aan de tweede seizoenshelft begonnen. De Italiaanse renstal probeert Red Bull Racing aan te vallen, maar vooral Carlos Sainz rijdt vooraan het veld mee. Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko denkt echter ook dat Charles Leclerc snel weer zal gaan toeslaan.

In de afgelopen twee Grands Prix kwam Ferrari goed voor de dag. In Italië pakte Sainz de pole position en vocht hij in de race een aantal rondjes met Max Verstappen. Vorige week in Singapore greep Sainz de macht en reed hij vanaf de pole position naar de zege. In Japan kan Ferrari dit weekend ook weer aardig meekomen. Verstappen was in de eerste twee vrije trainingen de snelste, maar Ferrari kwam redelijk in de buurt.

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko ziet ook dat Ferrari steeds beter voor de dag komt. De Oostenrijker maakt zich er niet druk om, maar hij ziet wel dat Leclerc veel minder presteert dan zijn teamgenoot. In gesprek met Kleine Zeitung spreekt Marko zich uit: "Sainz verkeert momenteel in topvorm en hij was ook al enorm snel tijdens het weekend in Monza. Leclerc moest de vorige keer in de race rustiger aan gaan doen. Ik denk dan ook niet dat Leclerc door Ferrari wordt gedegradeerd."
