Marko verwacht geen simpele zege van Verstappen in de Sprint

Max Verstappen start de sprintrace van later vandaag vanaf de derde plaats. Als hij op die positie over de streep komt, dan is hij wereldkampioen. Verstappen zal vanzelfsprekend voor de zege gaan, maar Helmut Marko verwacht niet dat dit een simpele opgave gaat worden.

Verstappen was hard op weg naar de snelste tijd in de Sprint Shootout van vanmiddag. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur ging echter over de track limits en daardoor werd zijn tijd geschrapt. Daarna kon hij geen supersnelle tijd meer noteren en dat resulteerde in de derde tijd. Hij werd verslagen door de opvallend snelle McLarens van polesitter Oscar Piastri en nummer twee Lando Norris.

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko verwacht niet dat de zege in de Sprint een simpele opgave gaat worden. De Oostenrijker sprak zich hierover uit in gesprek met ORF: "De derde plaats is al genoeg voor het wereldkampioenschap. We moeten ook nog maar eens zien of McLaren dit tempo kan vasthouden. Gisteren waren ze echter al heel erg snel. Het is hier ook niet zo makkelijk om in te halen, maar laten we eerst maar eens kijken naar de bandensituatie. Dat zal uiteindelijk wel beslissend zijn. We willen hier natuurlijk graag winnen, maar een podiumplaats is ook goed."
