Marko looft ongelooflijke Verstappen: "We gaan een klein feestje vieren"

Max Verstappen kroonde zich vandaag in de sprintrace in Qatar tot drievoudig wereldkampioen. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur kwam als tweede over de streep achter winnaar Oscar Piastri en dat was genoeg voor de wereldtitel. Bij Helmut Marko zorgde de titel voor veel emoties.

Voorafgaand de Sprint was het al duidelijk dat Verstappen wereldkampioen zou worden als hij minimaal drie WK-punten zou pakken. Hij startte de sprintrace vanaf de derde plaats en na een rommelige start vond hij zichzelf terug op de tweede plaats, Oscar Piastri was echter net iets te snel. Desalniettemin zorgde Verstappen voor een feestje, hij kreeg alle aandacht en zijn team en familie reageerde extreem trots.

Zege

Teamadviseur Helmut Marko was extreem trots op het resultaat van Verstappen. De Oostenrijker genoot zichtbaar van de zege, maar hij kon het niet laten om toch nog even een kleine teleurstelling te delen. In gesprek met Viaplay sprak Marko zich uit: "Ongelooflijk! Maar, de Safety Car heeft onze strategie trouwens wel verpest. Anders hadden we hier gewoon voor de zege kunnen gaan. We zijn wereldkampioen dat is hetgeen wat echt telt!"

Feestje

Morgen staat de Grand Prix op het programma, maar dat betekent niet dat de Red Bull-werknemers vroeg onder de wol gaan. Volgens Marko volgt er echt wel een feestje: "Ik ken Max nu tien jaar, maar hij blijft me maar verrassen. Het stopt niet, het gaat maar door en door. Het is echt ongelooflijk! We gaan een klein feestje vieren in het hotel. Het feestje wordt wel kort, want we willen ook morgen winnen. We moeten fit zijn! We moeten volledig geconcentreerd zijn."

Klopt wel, als er geen Safety Car was had Max gewonnen, en er was ook geen reet aan deze mini race, ze reden meer achter de Safety Car, dan dat ze aan het racen waren.

  Ik moet wel zeggen dat de marshals hier goed hun werk deden. De gestrande auto’s waren in no-time opgeruimd. Dat zien we ook wel eens anders.
