Marko trots op Verstappen: "Hij heeft geen off-day gehad"

Max Verstappen kroonde zich gisteren wederom tot wereldkampioen in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur werd voor het derde jaar op rij kampioen en dat zorgde voor veel lof. Helmut Marko omschreef Verstappen als een soort ideale schoonzoon die enorme ontwikkeling heeft doorgemaakt.

Voorafgaand de sprintrace was het al duidelijk dat Verstappen waarschijnlijk wereldkampioen zou worden. Hij startte de Sprint op de derde plaats en na de start verloor hij een paar posities. Hij vocht zich naar voren en hij kwam achter sprintwinnaar Oscar Piastri als tweede over de streep. Aangezien Verstappens enige uitdager Sergio Perez halverwege de sprintrace was uitgevallen, was de titel al snel in de pocket.

Ontwikkeling

Verstappen kreeg na afloop veel complimenten van kenners, volgers en medewerkers. Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko was in zijn sas met het resultaat. In gesprek met de Duitse tak van Sky Sports sprak Marko zich uit: "Sinds zijn eerste wereldtitel in 2021 heeft hij een enorme ontwikkeling doorgemaakt. Hij heeft ook een soort rust gevonden. Dit seizoen werd gekenmerkt door het feit dat hij geen off-day had, hij maakte geen fouten. Hij presteerde ieder weekend op een ongekend hoog niveau, dat is uniek voor zijn leeftijd."

Ideale schoonzoon

Marko is enorm onder de indruk van de prestaties van zijn stercoureur. De Oostenrijker is van mening dat Verstappen ook naast de baan een enorm goede indruk maakt. Marko deelt lachend dat er wel een verschil is tussen de Verstappen op en naast de baan: "Max is enorm down to earth en hij leeft echt zijn eigen leven. De focus is duidelijk en hij richt zijn blik volledig op de Formule 1. Buiten de auto is hij een ideale schoonzoon, maar in de auto ligt dat anders."

  Als daar de pitstops hadden meegezeten bij Max zoals alle teams 2 gratis stops hadden ten opzichte van Red Bull had ie gewoon vanaf het middenveld meegedaan om de winst.
