Ben Sulayem wil niet in Netflix-tijdperk blijven hangen

De populariteit van de Formule 1 is in de afgelopen jaren flink gegroeid. Er zijn steeds meer nieuwe fans bijgekomen en dat komt mede door de succesvolle Netflix-reeks 'Drive to Survive'. FIA-president Mohammed Ben Sulayem blijft echter waakzaam, want hij weet dat alles snel kan veranderen.

Streamingsdienst Netflix maakt al een aantal jaren de reeks Drive to Survive. In deze serie krijgen de kijkers een blik achter de schermen van de koningsklasse van de autosport. De meeste kopstukken van de sport werken hier aan mee, maar er is ook veel kritiek. Max Verstappen weigerde bijvoorbeeld geruime tijd mee te werken omdat hij vond dat er te veel werd geknipt en geplakt. Toch heeft de reeks wel geholpen bij de groei voor de Formule 1.

Netflix

FIA-president Mohammed Ben Sulayem wil niet achterover leunen. Hij is namelijk van mening dat alles snel kan veranderen en dat betekent dat hij stappen wil gaan zetten. In gesprek met de Duitse tak van Motorsport.com legt Ben Sulayem zijn mening uit: "Ik geloof dat we nu niet achterover kunnen gaan leunen. We moeten altijd aan de toekomst van onze sport denken. De nieuwe generatie wil meer te weten komen over de autosport. Je kunt het niet leiden op de manier waarop je dat vroeger deed."

Nieuwe uitdagingen

Ben Sulayem wil dat men goed blijft opletten. Hij laat ook weten dat de FIA goed moet samenwerken met Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media. Ben Sulayem looft het harde werk van Liberty en hij wijst naar de toekomst: "De Formule 1 zal zich moeten aanpassen aan nieuwe uitdagingen. De uitdagingen van tien jaar geleden zijn nu volledig anders. We moeten ons bedrijfsmodel wel verbeteren en ik weet zeker dat de sport het zal overleven, zolang de FIA ook sterk blijft."

De Fia moet Irgen voor de sportieve kant. De poppenkast is voor de FOM. Maar ome Ben wil ook de Jan Klaassen uithangen. En het niet gezegd dat ie dat ook doet
