Horner hekelt geruchten: "Eén van de nadelen van winnen"

De geruchten over een mogelijke tweestrijd binnen het team van Red Bull Racing blijven de gemoederen bezig houden. De kopstukken van Red Bull hebben de verhalen al naar het rijk der fabelen verwezen, maar toch worden er nog veel vragen gesteld. Volgens Christian Horner is het een nadeel van de huidige successen.

Afgelopen weekend kwamen er bijzondere geruchten naar buiten over het team van Red Bull Racing. Volgens het Zuid-Amerikaanse medium El Globo zou er een tweestrijd gaande zijn tussen teambaas Christian Horner en teamadviseur Helmut Marko. Daarna kwamen er nog meer verhalen naar buiten waarin werd gesteld dat Max Verstappen de kant van Marko had gekozen. Marko en Horner ontkenden de verhalen en Verstappen noemde het 'bullshit'.

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner liet in Austin nog een keertje van zich horen. Volgens de Brit slaat het nergens op en in gesprek met Motorsport.com is hij duidelijk: "Eén van de nadelen van als je veel wint, is dat er op een gegeven moment niet veel meer te schrijven valt. Omdat we niet met andere teams in gevecht waren, is het erg makkelijk voor anderen om negatieve dingen over ons te zeggen. Het is verbazingwekkend hoeveel tractie dit verhaal ook weer krijgt in de huidige wereld van social media."

Marko

Horner geeft ook aan dat hij ook geen ruzie heeft met teamadviseur Helmut Marko. Hij probeert nogmaals uit te leggen wat er aan de hand is: "Helmut heeft met het overlijden van Dietrich Mateschitz natuurlijk een vriend en een collega verloren, maar hij is nog net zo actief als voorheen en ik kan zijn input heel erg waarderen. We spreken elkaar bijna dagelijks over alle grote dingen die spelen in de Formule 1. We hebben altijd een uitstekende werkrelatie gehad en het is altijd een goede samenwerking geweest. Dat is niet veranderd."

Met deze woorden legt Horner helemaal niets uit. Als hij zegt dat het niet waar is, dan is dat wat het is. Maar als hij vervolgens meent iets uit te leggen en daarvoor woorden gebruikt die verder niets over dat vermeende conflict zeggen, dan gaan mensen daar weer vragen over stellen.
