Horner baalt niet van kleine verschillen: "Voorbode voor volgend jaar"

Max Verstappen start de sprintrace van zometeen vanaf de eerste plaats. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur was in de Sprint Shootout de snelste coureur, maar de verschillen met zijn concurrenten waren zeer klein. Volgens teambaas Christian Horner is het een voorbode voor de nabije toekomst.

Verstappen revancheerde zich vandaag voor zijn tegenvallende kwalificatie van gisteren. In de kwalificatie werd zijn poletijd geschrapt vanwege de track limits, maar vandaag kleurde hij binnen de lijntjes. Zijn voorsprong op Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton en Lando Norris was echter minimaal. Dat was geen grote verrassing volgens de kenners, men verwacht dat het spannend gaat worden in de komende races.

Fascinerend

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner vindt het helemaal niet zo erg dat de onderlinge verschillen niet zo groot zijn. De Brit spreekt zich uit bij Sky Sports: "We zien dat het veld dichterbij elkaar aan het komen is en de kwalificatie is altijd spannend. Je moet de balans echter zien te vinden tussen een ronde en een langere stint. We zullen in de sprintrace gaan zien hoe dit zich gaat ontvouwen. Dat wordt fascinerend."

Voorbode

Horner is van mening dat het in de komende Grands Prix nog veel closer gaat worden dan vandaag het geval is, hij vindt dat geen probleem: "Het veld komt dichter bij elkaar en je ziet dat de marges klein zijn. Hierdoor heb je heel erg veel aan de data. De simulaties die je runt tijdens de race zijn zeer belangrijk nu, dus daar ligt de focus nu vooral op. Maar ja, dat zou toch al gebeuren. Aangezien de reglementen stabiel zijn, komen de teams ook dicht bij elkaar. Dit is een voorbode voor volgend jaar."

Gezien het enthousiasme van Newey over hun auto, de toekomst vs de rest, denk ik dat Horner het vooral heeft over plek 2 tm 20.

  Verstappen wint het kampioenschap met meer dan 200 punten voorsprong, is het 80 punten dan spreekt men nog steeds over dominant. Continuïteit is het belangrijkste om kampioen te worden.
  Aangezien er in rap tempo wordt gekopieerd, zal RBR z’n kaarten voor volgend seizoen nog niet op tafel leggen nu de titels binnen zijn. Bij gelijk blijvende regels zie je altijd dat de teams dichtbij elkaar komen, en dat zal komende twee jaar niet anders zijn. Toch voorspel ik, en ik niet alleen, dat RBR in combinatie met Verstappen, het te kloppen team zal zijn tot 2026.
