McLaren-coureurs wisselend tevreden na sprintrace

McLaren-coureurs Lando Norris en Oscar Piastri ervaarden de sprintrace in Austin verschillend. Waar Norris bijna nog een P3 afsnoepte van Charles Leclerc met een sterke racesnelheid, had Piastri veel moeite om de banden in het juiste raamwerk te houden.

“Dat was een goede race, ondanks het moeilijke begin", zei Norris na afloop van de sprintrace op de McLaren-website. "Toen Carlos op Softs startte, duurde het een paar ronden voordat ik hem passeerde, maar toen ik dat deed, zag het tempo er heel erg sterk uit. Een stuk beter dan de Ferrari. Nog één ronde en we hadden Charles en P3 gehad. Er zijn veel positieve signalenvoorr zondag. Een goede dag en een goede voorbereiding op de Grand Prix van zondag."

Piastri daarentegen was niet tevreden met het verloop van zijn eigen wedstrijd. "Geen ideale sprint. In het begin hadden we veel strijd. Ik ging extreem snel door de banden en ze waren erg oververhit. Dus niet helemaal het resultaat dat we wilden, maar aan de positieve kant hebben we veel geleerd voor de race van zondag, waar de meeste punten worden verdiend. We zullen de focus nu verleggen naar de Grand Prix en streven ernaar om zondag verder te gaan."
