Horner bevestigt dubbele rookiesessie in Abu Dhabi

Het was eigenlijk geen geheim meer, maar ook Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner heeft nu bevestigd dat zijn team in Abu Dhabi twee rookies inzet. Het lijkt een extreem risicovolle actie te zijn, maar volgens Horner kennen ze het circuit zo goed dat er geen problemen zijn.

Alle teams zijn dit seizoen verplicht om minimaal twee keer een rookie in te zetten in een vrije training. Het team van Red Bull Racing heeft hier nog niet aan voldaan en dat zorgt voor veel opgetrokken wenkbrauwen. Het lijkt erop dat ze in Abu Dhabi Formule E-kampioen Jake Dennis en Isack Hadjar gaan inzetten. Dennis bevestigde dit nieuws eerder al, maar vanuit Red Bull bleef het stil.

In Mexico bevestigt Horner het nieuws. Hij zag Hadjar daar al rijden in de eerste vrije training voor AlphaTauri en hij ziet geen problemen. In gesprek met de internationale media legt hij de beslissing uit: "Het is de laatste normale race van het seizoen en we hebben daar al veel data verzameld. In Abu Dhabi is de eerste vrije training in de hete middag en dat is niet eens representatief voor de set-up. Daarom hebben we er ook voor gekozen om beide rookies daar te laten rijden."

Snap dus niet waarom al die teams dat zonodig op het laatste moment moeten doen.
Doe het eerder dan ben je van die verplichting af.
