Ralf Schumacher weigert Verstappen te vergelijken met Senna

Max Verstappen werd dit seizoen voor het derde jaar op rij wereldkampioen in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur is bezig met een geweldig seizoen en hij wordt vaak vergeleken met de grote legendes van de sport. Ralf Schumacher weigert dat echter te doen.

Verstappen is bezig met een historisch seizoen in de koningsklasse van de autosport. De Red Bull Racing-coureur heeft al meerdere enorme records verbroken en hij vindt zijn naam steeds vaker terug in lijstjes van de beste coureurs ooit. Sommige analytici, kenners en oud-coureurs vergelijken hem dan ook met legendes als Michael Schumacher en Ayrton Senna. Verstappen heeft Senna al ingehaald qua zeges en steeds vaker worden deze twee met elkaar vergeleken.

Maar, niet iedereen wil daar aan meedoen. Oud-coureur Ralf Schumacher vindt het namelijk niet bepaald goed om coureurs met elkaar te vergelijken. In zijn column voor zijn landgenoten van Sky Sports spreekt de Duitser zich uit: "Max Verstappen gaat echt van zege naar zege. Hij gaat maar door met het schrijven van geschiedenis en hij maakte in Brazilië simpelweg geen fouten. Maar, ik ben er geen fan van om het te vergelijken met mijn broer of Ayrton Senna. Die twee waren in hun tijd echt exceptioneel. Max is dat nu ook, hij doet het buitengewoon."

    ... en dan lees je in de laatste zin dat hij ze allebei exceptioneel noemt... en dus wel degelijk heeft vergeleken.

    Verder snap ik hem overigens wel. Ook wel vermoeiend, dit soort steeds maar weer terugkerende, identieke journalistenvragen. Bovendien is het voor Ralf niet makkelijk, aangezien hij toch niet met één van beiden heeft geracet.

      Er is geen vergelijk te maken. Verstappen is Verstappen en Senna is Senna.
      Het lijkt dan een beetje op ik is ik en jij is jij.

    Hij onderbouwd waarom hij Max niet vergelijkt met Broer en Senna.

    OT: Dieter Rencken krijgt met onmiddellijke ingang een functie bij de FIA en zal direct ressorteren onder Ben Sulajem als een soort adviseur.
    Zo zal hij o.a betrokken worden bij de Concorde agreement onderhandelingen.
    Geen journalist meer dus na vele jaren.

    Max wil zelf ook niet vergelijken. Dat maakt hem in mijn ogen een groot kampioen. Respect voor zijn voorgangers en je kunt zeker in deze hitech sport noet vergelijken. Dat Max exceptioneel is, ook mentaal en qua karakter is duidelijk.

    Anderen moet je met Max vergelijken.
    Wie dat niet doet schat Max nog steeds niet op waarde, het is pure Maxofobie
    Er zijn maar een select aantal oud F1 piloten die in Max zijn schaduw kunnen staan, de test zijn koekebakkers.

    Dat vergelijken heeft ook helemaal geen zin. Elk jaar zijn er zoveel wijzigingen dat je het helemaal niet kan vergelijken. Klein voorbeeld: Max heeft de meest overwinningen in een seizoen. Dat klopt helemaal. maar dat kan je dus totaal niet vergelijken met bv Alan Jones Piquet in 1980. Toen waren er maar 14 races. Plus een heleboel andere regels als nu.
