Horner durfde niet te kijken in Vegas: "Toen kreeg ik het benauwd"

Het circuit in Las Vegas kon afgelopen weekend op veel kritiek rekenen. Max Verstappen was geen fan en dat stak hij niet onder stoelen of banken. Zijn teambaas Christian Horner heeft een andere mening en hij stelt dat hij tijdens de race soms niet durfde te kijken.

Verstappen was vrijwel het hele weekend kritisch op het stratencircuit in Las Vegas. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur stelde dat de baan in de gokstad de Eredivisie was terwijl Monaco dan weer de Champions League vormt. De race in de straten van Vegas was dan weer wel een enorm spektakelstuk. Er waren veel duels en ook Verstappen moest zich door het veld heen vechten. Het had effect, want hij schreef de race op zijn naam.

Lay-out

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner is veel positiever over het circuit in Las Vegas dan zijn stercoureur Verstappen. De Britse teambaas denkt dat het één van de betere stratencircuits van de kalender is. In gesprek met Sky Sports is Horner duidelijk: "Ik denk dat het zeker bovenaan het lijstje staat. De baan heeft lange en snelle rechte stukken en enorme remzones. Je zag dat er aardig wat divebombes werden ingezet op dat laatste rechte stuk. Ik denk dat de lay-out heeft geleverd."

Benauwd

Horner is ook van mening dat de lay-out voor een spannende race heeft gezorgd. Er gebeurde zeer veel en Verstappen raakte een paar keer betrokken bij incidenten. Horner hield eventjes zijn hart vast: "Het asfalt was hier heel erg glad. Je zag dat de coureurs er echt voor moesten werken. Ik heb echt een paar keer mijn ogen dicht gedaan. Vooral met de koude banden tijdens de herstart kreeg ik het eventjes benauwd."

Tuurlijk.....vechten.....
De Honda met Max achter het stuur reed bijna 100 km per uur harder in de drs zone......vechten...ha!!

Die 100km per uur is ietwat overdreven hè

  Tja de 100+ pk die Mercedes ooit had heeft Max niet tot zijn beschikking maar op talent maakt hij zeker 50 pk goed en dan ben je gewoon dominant in een veld waar het pk verschil nog hooguit 5-10 pk is.

  @Snelrondje, nee, de Honda PU en de Ferrari PU zijn allebei even goed.
  De Honda PU is echter betrouwbaarder tot nu toe, maar qua vermogen
  en drivability zijn ze gelijk.

  Al een paar maal Verstappen grote complimenten gegeven.
  En nu schaal je vijand Horner met die 2 punt nul hoger in dan je vriendje Toto. Je bent goed bezig op die camping van je.

Eens met Horner. Een op papier simpele lay out met de lange rechte stukken en haakse bochten, maar leent zich perfect voor een mooie pot racen.

En ik heb begrepen dat de 'wear-down' van de Honda lager is dan de rest van de motoren, dus meer kilometers met hetzelfde vermogen.

  Dat klopt @RM.
  De Honda PU heeft ontzettend weinig slijtage, dus vermogensverlies na elke wedstrijd. Daarom heeft het ook geen zin om na 5 races een nieuwe in te zetten, want die heeft praktisch hetzelfde vermogen als de gebruikte PU.

  Dat was al zo in 2021. Zonder Silverstone zou Red Bull het hele seizoen hebben gereden met de voorgeschreven maximaal aantal motoren en componenten dat jaar.
  
  Vorig jaar was dacht ik wel een extra motor nodig. Dit jaar tot nu een extra versnellingsbak, maar die wordt door Red Bull gemaakt. Niet door Honda, voor zover ik weet dan.
