Verstappen lacht om Marko: "Nooit tegen mij wedden!"

Max Verstappen pakte vandaag in Abu Dhabi alweer zijn twaalfde pole position van het seizoen. De Nederlander was zeer snel op het circuit van Yas Marina en na een teleurstellende derde vrije training zag niemand dit aankomend. Helmut Marko had gewed dat Verstappen niet op de eerste startrij terecht zou komen en Verstappen kan daar om lachen.

Na afloop gaf Verstappen ook eerlijk toe dat het in de kwalificatie beter ging dat in de vrije trainingen. De Nederlander kon wel lachen om de situatie. Direct na zijn snelle ronde werd hij door zijn team geconfronteerd met de verloren weddenschap van Helmut Marko. De teamadviseur had met teambaas Christian Horner een weddenschap afgesloten van 500 euro, Verstappen zorgde dus voor een kleine schuld van Marko.

Shitbox

Verstappen meldde zich na afloop voor de camera van zijn landgenoten van Viaplay. Hij vertelde daar dat zijn team de auto een beetje had aangepast waardoor ze een betere balans wisten te vinden tussen de langzame en snelle bochten. Verstappen legt lachend uit waarom hij zijn excuses aanbood aan zijn team: "Ik had de auto een shitbox genoemd in de derde training! Als het zo is, dan is het zo. Dat kan ook weer heel snel worden aangepast en dat zag je ook. Nu was het weer normaal."

Weddenschap

Ook de weddenschap tussen Marko en Horner zorgde voor een grote lach op het gezicht van Verstappen. De regerend wereldkampioen legt uit dat die twee wel vaker een wedje aangaan: "Voor de lol doen ze soms weddenschappen. Ik denk dat Helmut gewoon niet had verwacht dat ik op de eerste startrij zou staan! Daar leert hij ook weer van, je moet nooit tegen mij wedden! Je moet altijd vóór mij wedden!"

Helmut heeft in zijn jongere jaren ook weleens gewed.
Dat was tegen 'n ventje wat net 'n nieuwe fiets had gekregen van zijn moeder.

ik heb de 1e ronde van Q1 met commentaar van Brundle gezien; die vond het ook maar matig, langzamer dan Sargeant in de 1e sector, dit kon tighter en dat kon tighter en zeker niet 1 van Max zn betere ronden, maar uiteindelijk kwamen de andere 19 coureurs de hele Q1 niet meer aan die tijd volgens mij. Kortom, ik denk niet dat Helmut de enige was die werd verrast. Alleen Brundle was er iets minder blij mee had ik het idee.

  Dit circuit is een bandenvreter. Dus rustiger aan doen in de eerste 2 sectoren zou een snellere 3 sector betekenen. Ik denk dat Max het beste compromis had gevonden.

Waarop Helmut zijn glazen oog eruit haalt....en knauw, in zijn oog.

Helmut gritste dat nieuwe fietsje uit de handen van het huilende ventje.

Paar dagen later kwam hij dat zelfde ventje weer tegen met alweer 'n gloednieuwe fiets.
Zegt hij tegen dat ventje dat hij weer wil wedden om dat nieuwe fietsje dat hij in zijn goede oog kan bijten, waarop dat onbenullige ventje zegt, dat kan u niet meneer, dus ik wil wel wedden om mijn nieuwe fietsje, waarop Helmut zijn valse tanden uit zijn mond haalt en in zijn goede oog bijt.....

  Ach @ouw, beter goed gejat dan slecht verzonnen. Alleen als je hem Urbanus niet zelf hoort vertellen is de grap maar half zo leuk.
