Marko blij met verloren weddenschap: "Voorspelling was verkeerd"

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko verloor na de kwalificatie in Abu Dhabi 500 euro. De Oostenrijker had een weddenschap afgesloten met teambaas Christian Horner. Ze wedden over de prestatie van Max Verstappen in de kwalificatie en Marko is blij dat hij heeft verloren.

Verstappen had tot en met de derde vrije training geen goed weekend in Abu Dhabi. Hij klaagde steen en been na afloop van de derde vrije training. Bij Red Bull ging men op onderzoek uit, want er was iets wat Verstappen behoorlijk dwars zat. Het team paste het één en ander aan en in de kwalificatie schitterde Verstappen weer als vanouds. Hij pakte de pole position en ook in Q1 en Q2 kon niemand aan hem tippen.

Teamadviseur Helmut Marko was trots op zijn manschappen. De Oostenrijker kon wel lachen om zijn verloren weddenschap en dat deed hij dan ook bij de Duitse tak van Sky Sports: "Onze engineers hebben een ongelooflijke prestatie geleverd. Ze hebben in de minimale speelruimte die beschikbaar is geweldig werk geleverd. Toen zette Max ook nog een geweldige prestatie neer. Ik had het nooit verwacht en mijn voorspellingen waren helemaal verkeerd, maar ik geef graag toe dat ik mis zat. Ik ben er blij mee aangezien dit nu het resultaat is!"
