Horner blij met pole Verstappen én gewonnen weddenschap

Christian Horner was na afloop van de kwalificatie in Abu Dhabi een tevreden man. De Red Bull Racing-teambaas was blij met de pole position van Max Verstappen én zijn gewonnen weddenschap met Helmut Marko. Horner kon daar na afloop hartelijk om lachen.

Direct na afloop van de kwalificatie meldde Horner zich op de boordradio van Verstappen. Vol enthousiasme liet de Britse teambaas weten dat Verstappen hem 500 euro had bezorgd. Horner en teamadviseur Helmut Marko hadden een weddenschap afgesloten over de prestatie van Verstappen in de kwalificatie. Marko had kennelijk het idee dat Verstappen niet in de buurt zou kunnen komen van de eerste startrij.

Horner kon daar na afloop hard om lachen. De Britse teambaas was in zijn nopjes met het resultaat en zijn 500 euro. Horner lacht dat het niet zo makkelijk is om geld af te troggelen van teamadviseur Marko. Bij Viaplay schatert Horner over het moment: "Dat was voor mij echt het mooiste resultaat van het jaar! Je krijgt niet zo snel geld los bij hem, dus dat was een heel mooie pole position!"

Veranderingen

Na een aantal lastige vrije trainingen op het circuit van Yas Marina moest Red Bull aan de bak om een goed resultaat van Verstappen mogelijk te maken. Horner legt het uit: "We konden in de eerste run in Q1 al zien dat we weer meededen. We hebben vannacht een aantal veranderingen doorgevoerd. De auto was in de warmere omstandigheden in VT3 iets meer disconnected. Toen zijn we dus meer teruggegaan naar de instellingen van gisteren. De monteurs en Max hebben geweldig werk geleverd."
