Zieke Ocon kritisch op de Formule 1: "Hier is het lichaam niet voor gemaakt"

Esteban Ocon noteerde gisteren in de kwalificatie op het circuit van Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi de twaalfde tijd. De Franse Alpine-coureur had het lastig. Ocon voelt zich hondsberoerd en hij denkt dat dit komt door de extreem lange kalender. Hij stelt dat het menselijk lichaam hier niet voor is gemaakt.

Ocon moest donderdag de mediadag in Abu Dhabi overslaan vanwege ziekte. Hij voelt zich niet goed en op advies van de medische mensen nam hij rust en kroop hij op vrijdag tijdens de tweede vrije training weer plaats achter het stuur van zijn Alpine-bolide. Maar, hij voelde zich nog steeds niet goed. Ocon worstelt nog steeds en ook tijdens de kwalificatie was het een zware opgave.

Na afloop van de kwalificatie wilde hij wel eventjes ingaan op zijn gezondheid. Ocon is zeer kritisch op de Formule 1 in gesprek met RaceFans: "Ik weet niet of dit komt door het tijdschema in Las Vegas, maar we hadden de zon vier dagen niet gezien. Het menselijk lichaam staat door veel factoren onder druk. Normaal gesproken word je ziek als je vanuit hier naar huis gaat. Nu is het één race meer dan vorig jaar. Het lichaam is daarvoor ontworpen, niet voor 23 of 24 races. Laten we eens kijken of we voor volgend jaar daar iets aan kunnen doen."

    Het lichaam is überhaupt niet gemaakt om dingen als 3 tot 5 g te doorstaan voor langere tijd, maar niks is zo ontwikkelbaar als het menselijk lichaam (vooral in combi met techniek)

    Hopelijk gaan ze niet elk pijntje en klachtje xx keren terughoren en gaan ze niet overal op in tijdens de briefings.
    Anders heb ik wel meelij met die FIA ambtenaar daar.

      Ik denk dat wij makkelijk praten hebben met ons dagelijks leven en zondag op de bank ploffen om de race te kijken. Als je ziet wat sommige coureurs voor schema's en verplichtingen hebben buiten de trainingen en races om dat is echt indrukwekkend. Krijgen ze rijkelijk voor betaald, maar laat niet weg dat het soms ook wel te veel kan zijn.

      Het was niet alleen vanwege dat absurde tijdschema in Las Vegas met een enorme kater, maar al dat heen en weer gereis tussen de diverse tijdzones de laatste maanden. Dat hakt er enorm in bij je immuunsysteem en ja, dan is een (buik-)griep of iets anders snel opgelopen.
      De coureurs zaten bij de PC met uitgebluste/vervelende gezichten, Lance Stroll en Piastri met de ogen steeds dicht en Max zat zich steeds in de ogen te wrijven.

      Het zijn geen piloten die constant naar verschillende tijdzones vliegen. Regelmatig tussen de races 2 of 3 weken en af en toe 3 races achter elkaar wow!. Ik geef toe dat de FIA misschien beter continenten kan afwerken en niet van hot naar her moeten vliegen, zo blijf je zolang mogelijk in 1 TZ. Maar de teams hebben de beste faciliteiten om te trainen, de beste artsen en diëtisten etc. Laten we elkaar geen mietje noemen, of net zoals China gewoon 1 TZ hebben.

      RJH, het gaat niet alleen om Las Vegas en de reis daarna naar AD. Het is een heel seizoen opgeteld. Met triple headers is er week op week amper tijd voor rust en herstel en dat vreet steeds een stukje weg van de weerstand die een coureur heeft. Op een gegeven moment is het op en dan in de transitie van Las Vegas naar AD letterlijk ook nog eentje van dag en nacht verschil. Daar raak je opgeteld flink gaar van.

    Vroeger, in the good old days, in de leeftijd van deze jongens werkte ik keihard door de week, en moest ik ook nog 'n meisje bevredigend achterlaten in het weekend, ja, flink bevredigend....
    en mezelf natuurlijk ook.
    En klaagde ik toen?.....welnee.

      Ik wel hoor. Mijn voorkeur ging uit om doordeweeks dat te doen wat je beschrijft met die meisjes.

      Je bent best gemakkelijk eigenlijk als je daar niet over klaagt.

      Ik heb weinig mensen hier gehoord over de docu over Brawn GP.

      Maar jij was wel geïnteresseerd daarin.

      Ik heb de eerste aflevering gezien en die is echt de moeite waard.
      Niet alleen voor de Brawn en Jenson fans, maar voor de algemene F1 fan.

      Dus de moeite waard om Disney Plus ff aan te schaffen.

    Ocon is bepaald niet mijn type mens, echter in deze heeft hij gewoon gelijk. Ik heb jaarlijks een keer of 5-6 last van jetlag, mijn lijf protesteert iedere keer heftiger. Ben wel veel ouder dan Ocon, dat wel maar ik begrijp hem wel.
