Horner lacht om AlphaTauri-samenwerking: "Nog geen roze Mercedes"

De nauwere samenwerking tussen Red Bull Racing en AlphaTauri zorgt voor opgetrokken wenkbrauwen bij de concurrentie. Men vreest dat AlphaTauri de bolides van de Oostenrijkse constructeurskampioen gaat kopiëren. Volgens Christian Horner is dit echter nog lang niet het geval. Hij stelt dat Red Bull zich aan de regels houdt.

Begin dit jaar besloot het Red Bull-concern dat er iets moest veranderen bij het team van AlphaTauri. Men heeft een flinke reorganisatie doorgevoerd en dat betekent ook dat de twee teams nauwer gaan samenwerken. De concurrerende teams zijn hier niet zo blij mee, want de vrees bestaat dat AlphaTauri hierdoor een oneerlijk voordeel gaat krijgen. Bij Red Bull kan men hier alleen maar om lachen.

Roze Mercedes

Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner is van mening dat er niets aan de hand is. In gesprek met Motorsport.com maakt hij een vergelijking met de veelbesproken Racing Point-rel uit 2020: "We zijn nog ver verwijderd van een roze Mercedes! Er zijn een aantal overdraagbare onderdelen die je volgens de regels mag leveren en dat is wat ze krijgen. Als je naar de auto kijkt, dan zie je dat er fundamentele verschillen zijn tussen onze auto en die van hen."

McLaren

Horner ziet geen enkel probleem in de samenwerkingsconstructie. De Brit stelt zelfs dat er veel meer teams zijn die gebruik maken van de plannen van Red Bull: "Er zijn waarschijnlijk andere auto's op de grid die qua concept veel meer op onze auto lijken dan AlphaTauri. Je hoeft alleen maar naar een Aston Martin of een McLaren te kijken. Als je naar de achterwielophanging van McLaren kijkt, dan lijkt die veel op ons concept."

Horner lijkt net een cowboy met het constant sneren naar Mercedes.

Volgens mij leek de Aston Martin dit jaar net zoveel op de Red Bull als in 2020 op de Mercedes. Gevalletje “reversed engineering”.

Dus deze verkapte beschuldiging slaat weer nergens op. Zeker gezien Mercedes geen enkel belang heeft of had in Aston Martin en Red Bull wel in Alpha Tauri.

  Boete 400.000 had te maken met de brake ducts als onderdeel op de auto die niet op de lijst stond als onderdeel van de auto. Niet omdat ze die van Mercedes hebben “gekregen”

  Kan je mij dan uitleggen waarom Mercedes gewoon de CAD tekeningen van de brake ducts aan Force India heeft 'gegeven'?
  
  Tuurlijk hebben/hadden ze een belang!
  Ze leverde onderdelen aan Force India en waren daardoor ook meteen de grootste crediteur van het noodleidende Force India.
  En Mercedes junior Ocon reedt heel toevallig bij Force India.

  Ik snap hem niet @GILH.
  
  De boete (en 15 punten aftrek) hebben ze gekregen omdat de teams zelf hun brake ducts moesten ontwerpen, en de FIA (na protesten van Renault en Ferrari) van mening was dat Mercedes deze ontwikkelt had, niet Force India.
  Mercedes heeft de CAD tekeningen van de brake ducts overhandigt aan Force India.
