Marko onthult: Tost blijft consultant voor Red Bull-teams

De Red Bull-familie nam afgelopen weekend in Abu Dhabi afscheid van Franz Tost. De Oostenrijker zwaaide af als teambaas van AlphaTauri. Helmut Marko gaat hem missen, maar hij laat wel weten dat Tost beschikbaar blijft voor andere taken binnen het team.

Tost was jarenlang de teambaas van AlphaTauri. In Abu Dhabi nam hij echter afscheid, er wordt een flinke reorganisatie doorgevoerd binnen de Italiaanse zusterrenstal van Red Bull Racing. Tost wordt volgend jaar opgevolgd door Laurent Mekies, Peter Bayer is al begonnen aan zijn job als CEO van het team. Bij de Red Bull-familie nam men in Abu Dhabi op emotionele wijze afscheid van Tost.

Pijn

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko gaat zijn goede vriend missen. De Oostenrijkse adviseur eert Tost in gesprek met de Duitse tak van Sky Sports: "Mark Mateschitz heeft hem symbolisch een modelauto gegeven, maar Franz krijgt gewoon een echte auto. Franz is hard van buiten, maar zacht van binnen. Het doet veel pijn om hem te zien vertrekken. Hij werkte niet alleen achttien jaar voor ons, hij was eerder in de autosport betrokken bij de loopbanen van veel anderen."

Consultant

Marko onthult wel dat Tost de Formule 1-deur op een kier laat staan. Eerder werd al duidelijk dat Red Bull hem wilde gebruiken als consultant en volgens Marko is dat nu helemaal rond: "Hij staat in 2024 en 2025 op stand-by om wat consultantwerk te doen. Als wij of de mensen bij AlphaTauri hem nodig hebben, dan kunnen we contact met hem opnemen. Hij mag verder doen wat hij wil, als het maar niet met de Formule 1 te maken heeft. Hij heeft het na achttien jaar verdiend om als jongen uit Tirol lekker te gaan skiën."

Hier was laatst iemand (of meerderen) die beweerde dat de top van Red Bull Racing
met de AlphaTauri Honda Jet naar de circuits vloog. Ik ontkende dat.
Zag net het vluchtschema van de afgelopen week van de OE-FAA,
terwijl de top van RBR in Abu Dhabi en Dubai zat en nog steeds zit.
