Jos Verstappen trots op zoon Max: "Hij is wel blij dat het seizoen er op zit"

Terwijl een aantal van zijn collega's vandaag in actie kwamen tijdens de post season test, zat Max Verstappen alweer thuis. Hij kan vakantie gaan vieren en daar is hij aan toe. Zijn vader Jos Verstappen stelt dat de Red Bull-coureur zijn baterijen nu weer kan gaan opladen.

Verstappen maakte er nooit een geheim van dat hij de huidige kalender te vol vindt. De Nederlandse Red Bull-coureur was moe en hij was zeker niet de enige. George Russell en Esteban Ocon waren in de laatste weken van het seizoen ziek en ook het teampersoneel had het zwaar. Verstappen sloot het seizoen af met een zege in Abu Dhabi en daarna was de opluchting bij hem te zien.

Winterbreak

In Abu Dhabi vierde Verstappen weer een feestje met zijn teamgenoten van Red Bull. Zijn vader Jos Verstappen legde vervolgens aan de Duitse tak van Sky Sports uit wat de wereldkampioen nu gaat doen: "Voor Max betekent de winterbreak dat hij kan gaan eten en drinken wat hij wel en dat hij de Formule 1 even achter zich kan laten. Het is voor hem belangrijk dat hij zijn baterijen weer kan opladen. Zijn trainingsschema zal halverwege januari weer intensiever worden."

Ziek

Jos Verstappen maakt wel duidelijk dat zijn zoon niet per se moe is. In de afgelopen weken stelden meerdere coureurs dat ze moe waren en dat ze zich niet goed voelden. Maar, volgens Jos is dat bij zijn zoon niet het geval: "Hij is wel blij dat het seizoen er op zit. Het was zeker niet makkelijk en veel mensen in het team zijn ziek van de stress en druk van vijf races in zes weken op drie verschillende continenten."

Altijd maar winnen brengt gek genoeg ook weer een druk met zich mee want iedereen gaat verwachten dat je wint, 1 keer 2e en je moet uitleggen waarom je geen 1e geworden bent.

Dat schema is te gek voor woorden.

Volgend jaar ook weer Australië (+10), tussendoor naar Engeland/Monaco/Italië/Spanje,
dan naar Japan (+7), weer naar huis in Europa en dan naar China (+6). Een en al jetlag.
