Prost looft Verstappen: "Andere teams moeten gewoon harder doorwerken"

Max Verstappen en Red Bull Racing domineerden dit jaar in de Formule 1. Verstappen brak record na record en hij bezorgde Red Bull de constructeurstitel. De overmacht van Verstappen zorgde voor veel frustratie bij zijn concurrenten, maar volgens Alain Prost moeten de andere teams gewoon harder gaan werken.

Verstappen werd dit seizoen met speels gemak voor het derde jaar op rij wereldkampioen in de Formule 1. De Nederlander verbrak meerdere records en hij bereikte de derde plaats op de all time-lijst van coureurs met de meeste zeges. Verstappen staat nu op 54 zeges en hij passeerde daarmee Sebastian Vettel. Eerder dit jaar ging hij ook over het zegeaantal van Alain Prost heen en de Franse legende vindt dat helemaal niet erg.

Bewondering

Prost is enorm onder de indruk van de prestaties van Verstappen. De viervoudig wereldkampioen feliciteert Verstappen en in gesprek met de Duitse tak van Sky Sports deelt hij zijn bewondering: "Velen hebben gezegd dat het slecht is dat één team en één coureur domineren. Ik bewonder het altijd als een team het zo goed doet als Red Bull en Max. Als iemand op zo'n manier domineert, dan is dat de uitkomst van het noodzakelijke werk. Je kunt ze alleen maar complimenten geven."

Harder werken

Prost heeft dan ook een zeer duidelijke boodschap voor de andere teams. De Fransman ziet niets in het wijzigen van regels om Red Bull en Verstappen af te remmen. Hij is simpelweg van mening dat de andere teams een betere job moeten doen: "Je moet gewoon harder werken als je dit niveau wil bereiken. Ik begrijp heus dat het soms frustrerend kan zijn, maar ik vond het dit jaar echt geweldig."
