Horner lacht om bizarre Marko-geruchten: "Hoort erbij in de paddock"

Red Bull Racing was afgelopen jaar heer en meester in de Formule 1. Dat betekende echter niet dat alles vlekkeloos verliep. Een gerucht over een tweestrijd binnen het team domineerde wekenlang het nieuws. Christian Horner kijkt er met een lach op terug en hij stelt dat dit bij het paddockleven hoort.

Het Zuid-Amerikaanse medium O Globo zorgde dit jaar voor een aardige hoeveelheid ophef. Het medium stelde dat er een tweestrijd gaande was binnen het team van Red Bull Racing. Teambaas Christian Horner en teamadviseur Helmut Marko zouden lijnrecht tegenover elkaar staan. Beide heren ontkenden de zaak stellig en ze stelden dat er helemaal niets aan de hand was binnen het team.

Humor

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner kan er met een lach op terugkijken. Hij is van mening dat dit het beste medicijn is tegen dit soort geruchten. Bij PlanetF1 sprak hij zich hierover uit: "Je moet de humor ervan inzien omdat het zo ver van de werkelijkheid afligt. In deze wereld waarin we leven is het jammer genoeg zo dat als iemand iets schrijft op een een obscure Braziliaanse website en het daarna naar vier verschillende talen wordt vertaald, het verhaal zijn eigen vlucht neemt. Vaak klopt er helemaal niets van deze verhalen."

Normale gang van zaken

Horner benadrukt nogmaals dat zijn band met Helmut Marko juist heel erg goed is. Hij snapt wel waarom dit soort verhalen het daglicht zien: "Het probleem is waarschijnlijk dat er voor jullie niet zoveel is om over te schrijven. Waarschijnlijk proberen onze concurrenten de geruchtmolen in gang te brengen met iets wat het team zou kunnen destabiliseren. Dat is een normale gang van zaken in de paddock."

Ik snap absoluut niet wat je bedoelt. Hoe is dan Red Bull gestraft met deze roddel? Het zegt naar mijn idee veel meer over het niveau en de integriteit van El Globo dan over wat dan ook anders.

Ik geloofde niets van de roddels van die krant. Was trouwens wel 1 van de weinigen. En daarvan snap ik... [Lees verder]

  Wel degelijk gezien Maxs reactie: Volgens geruchten wilde Christian Horner van Marko af, maar Verstappen weet dat Red Bull niet zonder de topadviseur kan. 'Eigenlijk zou je het moeten omschrijven als: Red Bull zou het niet moeten willen om zonder Helmut door te gaan. Dat heeft voor mij met respect en loyaliteit te maken. Dat staat voor mij op één. Zo sta ik er ook in, als ik kijk naar het contract tussen mij en het team. Wederzijds voel ik dat respect ook van Helmut. Hem laat ik niet vallen.'

Ik vind dat El Globo dit perfect gedaan heeft. Zonder ook maar met een woord iets te zeggen over de Zuid-Amerikanen uitspraken van Marko en prachtig gerucht de wereld in geholpen. Zowel de uitspraak van Marko over Zuid-Amerikanen als de machtsstrijd binnen Red Bull zullen beide ver van de waarheid af liggen.
Ik vind dit een veel betere oplossing dan de zwartmakerij van Wolff.

  Ik geloofde niets van de roddels van die krant. Was trouwens wel 1 van de weinigen. En daarvan snap ik dan ook weer helemaal niets. Dat zo veel mensen echt dachten dat er iets aan de hand was. Wat op internet wordt geplempt hoeft niet waar te zijn. En ook niet wat er in een krant wordt geschreven. Maar als er ergens een melding komt, dan begint het met "waar rook is, daar is ook vuur". Vervolgens wordt een verzinsel plots de waarheid. Ieder zijn of haar iets te geloven.
  
  Het zegt overigens helemaal niet dat Marko doorgaat. Die man heeft niet het eeuwige leven. En uiteindelijk zal zijn potje met energie leegraken. EN dan zal hij zelf zich terugtrekken uit F1. Hij zal dan zijn taken aan een ander overdragen.
  
  Denk dat het een groot gemis zal zijn voor Red Bull en SAT.
