McLaren wil Norris helpen om positiever te denken

Lando Norris kende dit jaar een sterk seizoen in de Formule 1. De Britse McLaren-coureur kwam steeds beter voor de dag, maar hij was toch enorm kritisch op zichzelf. McLaren-teambaas Andrea Stella wil hem gaan helpen en hij zoekt in andere sporten naar een oplossing.

Norris presteerde zeer sterk in de tweede seizoenshelft. Na een rampzalige start van het jaar zette McLaren de weg omhoog in en begon Norris steeds beter te scoren. De Brit stond regelmatig op het podium, maar een zege of een pole position zat er nog niet in. Norris was enorm kritisch op zichzelf, want hij stelde meerdere keren dat hij zichzelf te kort had gedaan. McLaren wil hem helpen om iets positiever te gaan denken.

Positief blijven

McLaren-teambaas Andrea Stella stelt dat het veel kan schelen als Norris zich meer focust op de positieve zaken. Bij Motorsport.com spreekt Stella zich uit: "Het gaat erom hoe je situaties beoordeelt, het gaat erom hoe je over situaties praat, hoe je jezelf interpreteert. Dat verdient zeker wat aandacht. Hoe kunnen we soms accepteren dat 99,9 procent goed genoeg is voor een ronde? Waar loop je tegenaan? Altijd die honderd procent halen of constantheid?"

Entourage

Stella heeft dan ook een plannetje bedacht over hoe hij Norris kan helpen. De teambaas wijst hierbij naar een de werkwijze bij een andere sport: "Als je naar mogelijkheden kijkt met coureurs op dit niveau, dan doe je dat als een groep. Dat doe je volledig om de coureur heen. Dat zien we ook in andere sporten, zoals in tennis. Die spelers hebben een hele entourage om zich heen die deze ongelooflijke prestaties ondersteunt om het beste te laten zien."

Norris legt zich vaak openlijk neer bij de hegemonie van RBR/Verstappen. Dat moet 'ie niet doen.
Is overigens niet uniek. Leclerc doet eigenlijk ook zoiets.

Misschien is positief denken niet het juiste woord, maar iets serieuzer worden dat zou Lando niet verkeerd doen.
