Junioren kunnen directe Red Bull-promotie vergeten

Het team van Red Bull Racing heeft de beschikking tot een vrachtlading aan rookies. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft een zeer succesvolle opleidingsploeg in de vorm van het Red Bull Junior Team. Toch vindt Christian Horner het geen goed idee om een junior direct naar Max Verstappen te plaatsen.

Verstappen was zelf kortstondig onderdeel van het opleidingsteam van Red Bull. De Nederlander werd een jaar voor zijn Formule 1-debuut onderdeel van de Red Bull-familie. Desalniettemin is Verstappen één van de succesvolste producten uit het opleidingstraject van Red Bull. Veel coureurs hebben via deze weg de koningsklasse bereikt, hetzelfde geldt immers ook voor Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz en Pierre Gasly.

Toch zal Red Bull er niet zo snel voor kiezen om het zitje naar Verstappen op te vullen met een debuterende coureur. Teambaas Christian Horner is daar duidelijk over in de podcast van Sky Sports: "De verwachtingen van de Red Bull-coureurs zijn zo hoog, dat het heel oneerlijk zou zijn om een junior direct naar Red Bull Racing te promoveren. Dat is de luxe van het hebben van een team als AlphaTauri. Max, Seb Daniel Ricciardo, veel van onze coureurs maakten de stap vanaf het AlphaTauri-team naar het topteam van ons."

Als een junior genoeg laat zien is Red Bull vast bereid om alle opties open te houden.
Max is ook niet voor niets ze snel doorgestroomd. Het (nooit bevistigde) verhaal dat ik in het begin gehoord heb is dat hij structureel sneller reedt in de RBR SIM dan iedereen.
