Häkkinen waarschuwt Perez: "Dan is het geen slechte situatie"

Het aanstaande seizoen wordt zeer belangrijk voor Red Bull Racing-coureur Sergio Perez. De Mexicaan moet goed gaan presteren, want anders kan zijn zitje in gevaar komen. Volgens Mika Häkkinen moet Perez zijn situatie bij Red Bull gewoon gaan accepteren, anders kunnen er problemen ontstaan.

Perez werd in 2023 tweede in het wereldkampioenschap achter zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen. De Nederlander had echter een enorme voorsprong en Perez presteerde zeer wisselvallig. Hij reed soms een aantal geweldige races, maar vaak zakte hij ook volledig door het ijs. Er was veel kritiek, maar bij Red Bull wilde men niet praten over een vroege exit. Perez beschikt over een contract tot en met het einde van dit jaar en daar houdt men hem aan.

Tweevoudig wereldkampioen Mika Häkkinen is uitermate kritisch op de prestaties van Perez. De Fin stelt dat het team veranderingen moet doorvoeren als Perez niet consistent presteert. Bij Unibet spreekt Häkkinen zich uit: "Meestal is één van de twee teamgenoten altijd langzamer. Het is duidelijk dat Perez langzamer is dan Max. Als de langzame teamgenoot zijn situatie accepteert, goed communiceert met zijn team en de media, de auto kan door ontwikkelen, gemotiveerd is en in de buurt kan blijven van zijn teamgenoot, dan is dat geen slechte situatie."

    Ik denk toch wel dat dit jaar zijn laatste seizoen bij RB gaat zijn.

      Velen dachten dat 2023 zijn laatste seizoen zou worden.
      Iemand hier opperde dat Ricciardo mogelijk een optie is om zijn marketingwaarde. Echter lijkt mij juist de marketingwaarde van Perez de reden dat hij er nog zit. Zolang Perez net voldoende doet voor de doelstellingen van RBR mag hij blijven is mijn mening. Men heeft bij Red Bull Racing nooit zoveel petjes en shirtjes verkocht. Sinds de Mexicaan bij het team is gekomen kunnen ze het niet aanslepen. Vervolgens neemt Perez goede sponsoren mee. En tot slot is dat suikerwater erg populair geworden in Mexico en co.

      Enige wat nodig is, dat is net het niveau aantikken wat Horner en co verwacht. Even wat getallen. In Mexico wonen rond de 130 miljoen mensen. In Australie ruim 25 miljioen. New Zealand meer dan 5 miljoen. Japan is dan wel interessant. Ongeveer net zo veel als in Mexico.
      Ben bang dat het Perez blijft in 2025 als die op zijn eigen niveau presteert en dus niet weer breekt zoals afgelopen seizoen.
