Horner voorziet pittige uitdaging met nieuwe motor vanaf 2026

Vanaf 2026 gaan de motorregels op de schop en wordt er afscheid genomen van de huidige V6-hybrid. Red Bull Racing komt dan voor het eerst met een zelfgemaakte krachtbron, deels met support van Ford. Teambaas van de Oostenrijkse renstal, Christian Horner, voorziet een pittige taak als onervaren motorbouwer.

“Het is de grootste uitdaging waarmee Red Bull te maken heeft gehad bij het ontwerpen en bouwen van zijn eigen motor. Dus dat is voor ons enorm", zegt de Brit tegen RaceFans.net.

"Een startend bedrijf die het opneemt tegen Mercedes en Ferrari en Honda en Renault en Audi. Met de steun van Ford wordt het een gigantische uitdaging. En dat onderschatten wij niet. Ik geniet allebei van de kans en de mogelijkheid.”

Motorregels in notendop

De performance van de Power Units zal gelijkwaardig blijven aan de huidige performance. De PU's zullen meer dan 1000 PK gaan leveren en daarnaast blijft de V6-motor ook nog intact. Bij de tweede pijler draait het op duurzaamheid. De Power Units zullen vanaf 2026 voor 50 procent draaien op elektrische power. Daarnaast wordt er dan ook een honderd procent duurzame brandstof geïntroduceerd. De MGU-H zal vanaf 2026 dan ook verleden tijd zijn.

De laatste twee pijlers draaien om het financiële aspect en de aantrekkelijkheid voor mogelijke nieuwe fabrikanten. Om de kosten te drukken worden de financiële regels omtrent de Power Units verlaagt voor de deelnemende fabrikanten. De laatste pijler is het interessants met het oog op de komst van nieuwe motorleveranciers. De nieuwe Power Units moeten namelijk aantrekkelijker worden voor toekomstige fabrikanten.

Je hebt ondertussen wel het beste personeel over gekocht van je concurrenten. Daarnaast heb je gezorgd dat je de langste aanlooptijd hebt voor het bouwen van die motor.
Ik denk dat jullie een raket gaan bouwen en dat dit soort uitlatingen alleen maar zijn om zand in de ogen (of tandwielen) van de concurrentie te strooien

  Ontneemt nog steeds niet het feit natuurlijk dat het wél degelijk een grote uitdaging is. Je hebt ook nog eens met een nieuwe partner te maken die het elektrisch gedeelte voor zijn rekening neemt.

  Het is een gloednieuwe organisatie (lees bedrijf) waarin je maar meot afwachten ofniedereen op de juiste manier kan en zal samenwerken. Zijn alle communicatie mogelijkheden volledig benut? Om maar een heel belangrijk aspect te noemen. Je kan een verzameling van de meest knappe koppen bij elkaar zetten. Maar als de communicatie niet goed is (men praat langs elkaar heen) dan komt er niet veel goeds uit. En zo kan ik nog wel een uurtje verder gaan. Een nieuw bedrijf heeft ook tijd nodig om ingewerkt te raken.
