Verstappen kiest McLaren-coureurs uit als ideale rijdersduo

Max Verstappen staat bekend als een liefhebber van de autosport. De Nederlander ziet dan ook veel talent om hem heen rijden. Hij is onder de indruk van McLaren-coureurs Lando Norris en Oscar Piastri. Verstappen kiest hen dan ook als zijn ideale rijdersduo.

McLaren maakte in de tweede seizoenshelft van 2023 veel indruk in de Formule 1. Norris scoorde een groot aantal podiumplaatsen, maar een zege zat er nog niet in. De debuterende Piastri liet ook een aantal schitterende dingen zien, waaronder een zege in de sprintrace in Qatar. Hij hield hier de jagende Max Verstappen achter zich, al wist de Nederlander dat de tweede plaats goed genoeg was voor titelprolongatie.

Norris

Verstappen is onder de indruk van de prestaties van het McLaren-duo. Door Auto, Motor und Sport wordt hem gevraagd hoe hij zijn ideale rijdersduo er uit zou zien: "Mag ik dan mijzelf ook kiezen? Dan kies ik gewoon mijzelf met Lando Norris als teamgenoot. Hij is immers nog steeds een jonge coureur, met een mooie loopbaan voor zich. Bovendien kan hij ook heel, heel erg snel zijn."

Teambaas

Verstappen wordt ook gevraagd wat zijn keuze zou zijn als hij de teambaas was. Hij kan hier niet kiezen voor zichzelf, dus maakt hij een andere opvallende keuze: "Dan Lando samen met Oscar Piastri. Ze zijn allebei heel erg goed. Lando is net wat ouder en Oscar is een hele snelle rookie. Hij moet nog wat dingen leren en hij kan nog wat dingen verbeteren, zoals zijn racepace. Van wat ik kan zien, is hij een slimme jongen. Hij zal in de toekomst wel races gaan winnen."

Raar altijd die enorme kritiek op Norris. Norris was vorig jaar gewoon duidelijk de betere t.o.v. Piastri, terwijl Piastri een enorm groot talent is. Lando mag zich wel eens ECHT laten zien in 2024 en trachten Oscar duidelijk te verslaan en het wordt tijd, dat hij eens een race wint, voordat Oscar het doet. Staat wel wat druk op hem, anders blijft hij op den duur het eeuwige talent.

De combinatie Verstappen/Red Bull was veel te sterk, dus het is ook niet realistisch om overwinningen te eisen van Norris.

Een van de redenen waarom Max voor Lando kiest.

Hoog tijd om eens in te zoomen op de racecarrière van de Brit Lando Norris. Zelfs onze eigen Max is onder de indruk van z’n 17-jarige collega, dus dat belooft wat.

Norris wordt getipt als de nieuwe reserverijder van McLaren, een rol die nu nog wordt vervuld door wel/niet pensionado Jenson Button. McLaren wil echter de tijd nemen om Norris in lagere raceklassen te laten rijpen. Zo ziet teambaas Zak Brown het liefst dat de jonge coureur een jaartje Formule 2 gaat rijden, waar Nederlander Nyck de Vries ook in uitkomt en die eveneens in het junior-programma van McLaren zit.

Hiervoor was Lando al de jongste wereldkampioen karten ooit en hij is nu met 17 jaar de jongste kampioen in de Formule 3 ooit.

  Klopt als een bus. Echter als je de geschiedenis er op na slaat, dan blijkt dat successen in andere klassen nog nooit een garantie is geweest op succes in de F1.
