Verbreekt Verstappen alle records? "Hangt af van de auto"

Max Verstappen kende afgelopen jaar een ijzersterk seizoen in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur werd met speels gemak voor de derde keer wereldkampioen. Of hij nog grotere records kan gaan breken in de toekomst, hangt volgens Helmut Marko volledig af van Verstappen zelf.

Verstappen wordt gezien als de coureur die de records van Michael Schumacher en Lewis Hamilton kan evenaren. Beide coureurs hebben zeven wereldtitels op hun naam staan en ze hebben een enorme lijst aan overwinningen achter hun naam staan. Verstappen heeft nu drie wereldtitels gepakt en men denkt dat de Nederlander in de komende jaren nog veel kan gaan winnen.

Lol hebben

Verstappen staat nog tot en met 2028 onder contract bij het team van Red Bull Racing. Teamadviseur Helmut Marko wordt door Motorsport.com gevraagd hoeveel records Verstappen nog kan gaan breken: "Het is natuurlijk afhankelijk van de auto en de timing, maar ook zeker van de vraag wat hij zelf wil. Hij moet lol hebben en hij moet van de sport genieten. Momenteel is dat zeker het geval en dat is een goed teken. Hij zal natuurlijk niet gratis rijden, maar geld is niet de voornaamste drijfveer van Max."

2026

Ook de regels die in 2026 gaan gelden in de Formule 1, worden zeer belangrijk voor Verstappens toekomstkeuze. Marko beseft zich dit maar al te goed. De Oostenrijker weet dat Verstappen al eerder kritisch was op deze nieuwe regels: "Het hele pakket moet hem natuurlijk ook passen. Max heeft in ieder geval al een sterke voorkeur voor lichtere auto's en alle dingen die daar bij horen."

  Max had op 12-jarige leeftijd 59 van de 60 races in diverse series in het karten gewonnen. Meerdere keren het kampioenschap dus gewonnen en uiteindelijk het FIA World Championship.
  
  Van de 29 series waarin hij heeft gekart heeft hij er 23 gewonnen en is hij
  4 keer 2e geworden en 2 keer 3e.
  Dit is door niemand geëvenaard, zelfs niet een beetje.
  Daarnaast reed hij altijd tegen jongens die veel ouder waren en veel meer ervaring hadden.

  Daarbij wordt vooral door de trollen geroepen dat Verstapoen in alle auto's wint.
  Kan me nog wel herinneren in de goede Hamilton tijd dat er fans van Vettel het zelfde trol gedrag toonden over Hamilton.
  
  Wat deoranjecamping doet en nog een paar anderen over de besten van het moment is respectloos ten opzichte van de rijders.
  En uiteraard hebben de meeste rijders de beste auto nodig om kampioen te worden. Verstappen en in het verleden Hamilton konden het of zouden het kunnen in een iets mindere auto.
  Verstappen en Hamilton in de jonge jaren hebben ook laten zien dat ze GPs kunnen winnen in zeg de derde auto van de grip.
  Senna en bijvoorbeeld Schumacher konden dat ook.

Sommige records kan Max al niet meer verbreken, zoals jongste coureur op pole. Zo zijn er vast nog tig te vinden, waarin je ofwel de jongste, dan wel de oudste moet zijn (die kan Max natuurlijk nog wel verbreken....).
