Norris hekelt vooroordelen over vriendschap met Verstappen

Lando Norris kende afgelopen jaar een goed seizoen in de Formule 1. De Brit vocht in de tweede seizoenshelft vrijwel elk weekend mee om de podiumplekken en hij reed een aantal sterke races. Wel vindt hij het irritant dat men stelt dat hij vaker het gevecht aan gaat met Lewis Hamilton dan met Max Verstappen.

Norris kon in de tweede seizoenshelft in 2023 regelmatig vechten met de topcoureurs. Meerdere keren mocht hij de degens kruisen met bijvoorbeeld Lewis Hamilton en Max Verstappen. Met Hamilton vocht hij een aantal felle duels uit, terwijl hij Verstappen vaak liet passeren. De Red Bull was namelijk veel sneller en Norris wilde geen grote risico's nemen door een kansloos duel aan te gaan.

Het irriteert hem dat sommigen stellen dat hij niet vocht met Verstappen omdat ze vrienden zijn. Norris rekent met dit vooroordeel af in gesprek met Autosport: "Zou ik graag beter mijn plek verdedigen? Natuurlijk! Waarom niet? Ik houd van racen en dat is ook wat ik wil doen. Ik wil aan helemaal niemand mijn positie opgeven en al helemaal niet aan Max. Buitenstaanders oordelen veel te snel. Ze zeggen dat ik vrienden ben met Max. Dat ik bevriend ben met iemand zorgt er eerder voor dat ik die persoon heel erg graag wil verslaan."
