Button ziet groot verbeterpunt voor 'exceptioneel talent' Norris

Lando Norris kende vorig jaar een goed einde van het seizoen. De Britse coureur vocht zich terug na een tegenvallende start van het jaar en uiteindelijk vocht hij mee om de podiumplekken. Jenson Button ziet Norris als een megatalent, maar hij stelt wel dat zijn landgenoot van zijn twijfels af moet komen.

Norris presteerde zeer goed in 2023, hij profiteerde van de updates van McLaren en dat werd vooral zichtbaar in de tweede helft van het seizoen. De Brit eindigde regelmatig op het podium en in de kwalificaties presteerde hij ook zeer goed. Norris ontving veel complimenten, maar zelf was hij enorm kritisch. Hij vond dat hij meer pole positions had kunnen pakken en hij had ook meer verwacht van zijn prestaties in de races.

Enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Jenson Button is van mening dat Norris iets liever voor zichzelf moet zijn. Button is onder de indruk en hij spreekt zijn gevoel uit bij Sky Sports: "Lando is echt een extreem groot talent. Ik volg hem al sinds zijn eerste keer achter het stuur van een Formule 1-bolide. Dat was in Hongarije en daar kon ik hem volgen, omdat ik toen zelf voor het team reed. Het is geweldig om te zien hoe snel hij het onder de knie heeft gekregen. Hij is alleen ook een echte denker en dat doet hem soms pijn. Hij denkt te vaak dat hij niet goed genoeg is. Dat is hij wel, hij is exceptioneel. Ik kan niet wachten om hem te zien in materiaal waarin hij kan winnen."
