Horner trots op steun 'gepassioneerde' Red Bull-aandeelhouders

Red Bull Racing was in de afgelopen jaren zeer succesvol in de Formule 1, maar toch zijn ze een beetje de vreemde eend in de bijt. Concurrenten Mercedes en Ferrari zijn immers automerken, terwijl Red Bull van oorsprong energiedrankjes maakt. Volgens Christian Horner heeft het bedrijf hier een goede reden voor.

Het Red Bull-concern is eigenaar van twee teams in de Formule 1. Naast het succesvolle Red Bull Racing zijn ze ook eigenaar van AlphaTauri. Red Bull Racing werd vorig jaar met speels gemak wereldkampioen en constructeurskampioen. Met Max Verstappen hebben ze de grote superster van de sport onder contract staan. Daarnaast zijn ze momenteel samen met Ford bezig met het ontwikkelen van nieuwe krachtbronnen voor 2026.

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner vindt het niet meer dan logisch dat het bedrijf investeert in de Formule 1. In een interview met CNBC legt Horner het uit: "Ik denk dat de aandeelhouders altijd gepassioneerd zijn geweest over de Formule 1 en de racerij. Ze zagen dat dit het perfecte platform was om hun product aan de man te brengen. Dit is de meest bekeken sport naast de Olympische Spelen en het WK voetbal. Die evenementen worden echter maar één keer in de vier jaar georganiseerd. De Formule 1 is er elke twee weken."
