Helmut Marko speelt een belangrijke rol bij het team van Red Bull Racing. De Oostenrijkse teamadviseur gaat ook over het Red Bull Junior Team. Marko is zeer streng en jonge coureurs moeten dan ook echt presteren. Jak Crawford doet nu een boekje open over Marko.

Marko speelde een belangrijke rol bij de loopbanen van veel coureurs. Onder meer Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, Carlos Sainz en Daniel Ricciardo kregen de kans van Marko en Red Bull om hun eerste stappen te zetten in de Formule 1. Maar niet elke coureur uit de opleidingsploeg van Red Bull krijgt de kans om de stap naar de koningsklasse te zetten, veel van hen worden al vroeg weggestuurd.

Eerlijk

De Amerikaanse Formule 2-coureur Jak Crawford was tot en met vorig jaar onderdeel van het Red Bull Junior Team. Hij leerde daar de werkwijze van Marko kennen en in de podcast 'Track Limits' legt Crawford het uit: "Hij is een hele interessante man. Hij is echt rechtdoorzee en hij is heel erg eerlijk, maar soms is hij ook wel iets te eerlijk. Als hij het echt in je ziet zitten, dan zet hij ook alles op alles voor je."

Gang van zaken

Crawford besloot zelf te vertrekken bij het Red Bull Junior Team. Dat betekent echter niet dat zijn loopbaan voorbij is, want ook aankomend seizoen rijdt hij in de Formule 2. Crawford legt uit waarom hij de Red Bull-deur achter zich dicht trok: "Ik bevond mij in een lastige positie, want er was eigenlijk niet zoveel plek bij Red Bull. Het was ook niet zo fijn om te zien dat er steeds meer talenten werden toegevoegd aan de ploeg. Ik werd nog steeds goed behandeld, maar ik was niet blij met de gang van zaken."

Ik vind het maar een slap excuus: als je zeurt dat er teveel mensen in het junior team komen dan weet je van jezelf dat je gewoon niet goed genoeg bent. Dan kan je nog wel kiezen om zelf het team te verlaten, maar laat het wel zien dat er geen fight zit in deze jongen
