Charles Leclerc eert overleden vader in Bakoe

Charles Leclerc kreeg in de week voorafgaand aan het weekend in Bakoe een zwaar verlies te verwerken. Zijn vader, zijn steun en toeverlaat, kwam te overlijden op 54-jarige leeftijd. Leclerc gaf dat razendsnel een plekje en was in Azerbeidzjan misschien nog wel sterker dan anders, vastberaden als hij was om zijn vader waardig te eren.

Dat is precies wat hij deed. Voor de vierde opeenvolgende keer de snelste in de kwalificatie, winst in de hoofdrace en een tweede plaats in de sprintrace; Leclerc was een man met een missie in Bakoe. Die tweede plaats in de sprintrace kwam ook alleen maar tot stand door een tijdstraf omdat hij niet genoeg van zijn gas was gegaan tijdens een gele vlag-situatie.

Anders had Leclerc beide races gewonnen en dat had het eerbetoon voor zijn vader nog meer glans gegeven. De jonge Monegask gumde het puntloze weekend in eigen land zo uit en vergrootte zijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap naar 42 punten. Dat doet ook recht aan de verhoudingen; Leclerc steekt met kop en schouders boven de rest uit in de Formule 2.

Het contrast met teamgenoot Antonio Fuoco is gigantisch. Fuoco is net als Leclerc afkomstig uit de GP3 en beiden behoren tot het opleidingsprogramma van Ferrari, maar wat de potentie voor de toekomst betreft is het een wereld van verschil. Fuoco hobbelt anoniem mee en scoorde pas twee puntjes, terwijl Leclerc iedereen zijn wil oplegt.

Fuoco zal de Formule 1 waarschijnlijk nooit halen, ondanks de hulp van Ferrari. Leclerc is een absoluut toptalent en gaat het juist heel ver schoppen. Of het moet raar lopen…

Anders zou ik als red bull, mijn best doen om hem snel in de torro rosso te krijgen....

Wel apart dat Fuoco zo diep zakt terwijl hij in de GP3 toch vaak even snel was als Leclerc en Albon.

  Fuoco en Albon zijn talenten die het niet gaan redden. In het begin van hun carrière veel belovend maar uiteindelijk niet goed genoeg (zoals velen in GP3) die niet van uitzonderlijk talent zijn. Een beetje verloren generatie, zo lijkt het wel. Gedurende jeugd periode vooral 3e, 4e en 5e geworden. Leclerc is de enigste die volgend seizoen in aanmerking komt om in F1 te rijden. Laat toch wel leuke inhaal acties zien zoals de race van Bahrein waar hij het halve veld inhaalt met leuke inhaal acties.
  Gezien de situatie bij Rebull zou ik hem snel een zitje aanbieden voor TR. Met Kyvat is toch wel gedaan dit seizoen . Met Gasley en Leclerc heb je nieuw bloed in het team wat talent heeft om leuk mee te doen in F1. Ik ben benieuwd of Redbull Kyvat laat vallen.

  Ik zie Leclerc eerder bij een Haas gaan rijden. Toro Rosso heeft Gasly en ik denk dat Kvyat toch nog een jaar bliijft.

Ik zou Leclerc zo snel mogelijk in de Ferrari zetten mocht Raikkonen er mee ophouden , zo,n talent als Leclerc kom je niet vaak tegen, en qua talent van het niveau van max
