Ocon en Verstappen vechten prestigestrijd uit in training

De tweede vrije training voor het Europees Formule 3-kampioenschap is ten prooi gevallen aan Esteban Ocon. De Fransman verdrong met zijn laatste rondje Max Verstappen van de kop. De twee kemphanen maakten er sowieso een prestigestrijd van in deze sessie.

Verstappen junior opende het bal met snelle tijden, laag in de 1:36 en hoog in de 1:35. Met nog tien minuten te gaan dook Ocon daar onderdoor. Max Verstappen pareerde en dacht de eerste plek over de streep te trekken. In de absolute slotfase ging kampioenschapleider Ocon toch net wat sneller.

Het verschil tussen beiden bedroeg slechts 19 duizendsten, 1:35.614 om 1:35.633. De top vijf bestond verder uit Lucas Auer, Felix Rosenqvist en Tatiana Calderon. Jules Szymkowiak was ook aardig op dreef, hij nestelde zich keurig in op P10. Dennis van de Laar noteerde de zestiende tijd.
